A Third New Amendment [Ban On Smoking]

By Gail Fonda
Aug 23, 2004

Mr. Bush wants an amendment to the Constitution to defend marriage as between a man and a woman, even though 50% of all marriages end in divorce. Whatever.

Arnold, the governor of California, wants an amendment so that he can run for President in the future, but he's a naturalized citizen. (The Democrat pretending to be a Republican) Whatever.

I want my own amendment. I despise cigarettes. I have trouble talking to people if they have a cigarette, because the smoke tickles my throat and then I start choking. So, if I am confronted by a smoker, I try to end the conversation as quickly as possible so I can get away. Because I need to have oxygen while I am talking, not nicotine.

I understand the Republicans like nicotine and guns because the production of both items brings in lots of money and makes the wealthy people wealthier. Whatever.

But I like to breathe and I think that is more important than the money made by the selling of cancer sticks, which is my nickname for cigarettes. That's what cigarettes are, producers of cancer. I suppose if people are stupid enough to smoke, it's their own fault if they get cancer and die, but, since we're on a roll here, with constitutional amendments and the limitations on individual's freedoms, I want to take this a step further.

I propose an amendment to ban the use of nicotine anywhere, anytime. I want the tobacco companies boarded up and closed, just like the anti-abortionists impose their beliefs on others by shooting at doctors who perform abortions, which are legal by law.

Currently it is legal to smoke nicotine even though it is a very dangerous substance that causes death after years of repeated exposure. I want an amendment to the Constitution to protect people from their own nasty behavior, smoking nicotine. It is a terrible burden on the American health care industry to remove the lungs of cancer-infested humans, which is only a temporary treatment. Usually, when a lung is removed, the person doesn't last too much longer, and then comes the agonizing death.

I want to protect people from themselves by jailing them for smoking nicotine. I will have accomplished a great public service. I'd like to make this one of my life's missions!
