Aug 9, 2004 That I am voting for the reelection of President Bush should come as no surprise to anyone. I am a conservative partisan and freely acknowledge it. However, that is not to say that I agree with the President on everything. For example, our policy of allowing illegal aliens to cross our borders and enter the United States (almost at will) is a highly dangerous one; considering the real and present threat of terrorism. That conservatives question their leaders is one of the salient differences between them and members of the Democrat party. I actually do have a few liberal friends. These friends have questioned me on aspects of President Bush’s Administration policies and we have engaged in lively dialogue. However, when I have in turn asked them legitimate questions in regards to John Kerry’s record in the Senate or his tour of Viet Nam, they have immediately turned the conversation back to their preconceived ideas of the “Bush Administration’s failures”. They simply refuse to talk about their candidate (other than saying “Kerry was a war hero”) at all. Were all democrats sent some sort of a script, which forbids them from questioning John Kerry on anything? Is this just peculiar to questions for Mr. Kerry or are democrats not allowed to question any of their candidates’ records? The real problem is, with the refusal of democrat liberals (I include the “mainstream press” in this group) to question one of their own, that if Q&A doesn’t occur the truth never comes out. Is the quashing of truth really what most democrats want? If so, they are treading on dangerous ground that is bound to fall from beneath them and leave them nothing to stand on. George’ Bush’s National Guard service (ALL of President Bush’s military records have been released whereas Mr. Kerry’s have not) and any problems he has had throughout his lifetime have been endlessly scrutinized by the press and democrats (same thing). But, Mr. Kerry, as always, is given his usual pass. Are democrats afraid of what will come out, should the truth about Mr. Kerry be revealed? Recently, Kerry’s and the DNC’s General Counsels threatened television stations if they dared to run the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth ads against Kerry. These same attorneys have, now, approached the publishers of “Unfit For Command”. Are these lawyers attempting to stop the release of the book? It would appear that they are. After “Unfit For Command” is released, are book burnings next? The Democrat party shouts continually about their free-speech rights as identified in the First Amendment. Is “free speech” now ONLY applicable if one regurgitates the ideology of the left? That’s not free speech. That, my friends, is real and true fascism (“a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control”). The next President of the United States will serve (not rule) all of us; Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives and Liberals. It is incumbent upon all of us to question our leaders until we receive viable answers. President Bush’s record, on virtually everything, has been analyzed and dissected down to a gnat’s eyelash. It’s now John Kerry’s turn. ------------ About the author: Sher Zieve has a degree in Journalism, appeared on the CBS program "Mysteries of the Millenium", has been included in "Who's Who in the West", "Who's Who in the US" and "Who's Who in Entertainment".
