Aug 2, 2004 In 1971, John Kerry testified before a Congressional committee that not only had he witnessed atrocities during the war in Viet Nam but, that he had participated in them. That same year, he repeated the same hymn on Dick Cavett’s television show. Mr. Kerry accused his fellow soldiers of rape, pillage, hacking off limbs, shooting animals and burning villages for fun. He admitted that he had, also, engaged in myriad atrocities. Kerry told us that these were not isolated incidents. Mr. Kerry had begun his 4 month stint in Viet Nam, with the express purpose of coming home a hero; in order to run for political office. He had even brought along a camera crew to follow him around, while in battle. However, upon returning from his short and “highly-decorated” (dubious to many) tour, the tides had changed and anti-war sentiment was raging in the US. So, Mr. Kerry became anti-war and anti- American. For Kerry’s meritorious service in Viet Nam, he was even honored by Communists. At the Ho Chi Minh City museum, a photograph of a Kerry 1993 meeting with Do Muoi (Secretary General of the Vietnamese Communist Party) is proudly displayed for Mr. Kerry’s contributions. This is the same John Kerry who is running on the Democratic Party’s ticket for President of the United States. I’d like to know what happened to the hard questions from the “mainstream press”, of this candidate on these issues. Does it even care that Kerry, at least, gave the appearance of being a collaborator with the Communists? Is the traditional press so inordinately biased toward the Democrat Party and the left that it will accept any and all behaviors from a Democrat candidate? Tim Russert (“NBC News’ Meet the Press”), in an April 18, 2004 interview, asked Kerry about the atrocities he said he had committed. Russert’s is the only remotely recent interview to even bring the subject up. Mr. Kerry danced a bit, stumbled over his words and said that he used “a language that reflected an anger” and admitted that some of the stories of atrocities had “been discredited”. Kerry, however, still stood by his actions and said: “I'm proud that I stood up at a time when it was important to stand up, but I'm not going to quibble, you know, 35 years later that I might not have phrased things more artfully at times.” At that point, Russert moved to another topic. So, placing our soldiers in harms way is something of which Mr. Kerry is proud. Holding two opposing positions (for Kerry’s personal political gain) on something as important as war, in which our troops fight and die, is a good thing to him; even though he knew he had in part contributed to those deaths. John F. Kerry is affecting the same stance (or stances depending on his mood) in regards to the Iraq war. First he was for it and then he was against it. Now, after his acceptance speech last Thursday, he appears to be both for it and against the war. Again, where in blazes are the reporters of the mainstream press? Can’t they see the blatant similarities between Kerry’s positions in 1971 and now? Why are none of them pointing them out? Kerry’s standpoints switch from one position to the opposite in a lightning flash! Is there anyone in the mainstream press skilled enough to see what these inconsistent and dangerous behaviors, should this guy become president, would do to the country? Has the press become so totally biased and jaded that it would rather see the country disassembled than have their candidate lose the election? The terrorists don’t care if Americans are on the right or the left of the political spectrum. They are unbiased towards Americans and have vowed to kill ALL of us. If the press would actually ask and consistently press Mr. Kerry on these issues, the truth about his risky inconsistencies and lack of real decision-making ability might actually be uncovered. The people of the country might get real answers and a much truer picture of ‘Kerry the presidential candidate’, rather than the current predetermined PR packaging. This is not just a political battle as to “which team will win”. The country requires and must have a consistently strong leader to survive at all. These are the gravest of times and we can’t afford to take a chance on someone who has no idea who or what he’s going to be, when he gets up in the morning. My challenge to the members of the mainstream press in the country (NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post etc.), should they actually decided to accept it, is that they finally ask the “hard questions” of John F. Kerry and demand that he give straightforward, believable and realistic answers. Don’t allow him to babble and take you off-subject. You can be and have been excellent in pushing political leaders for answers. You do it quite regularly with President George W. Bush. ------------ About the author: Sher Zieve has a degree in Journalism, appeared on the CBS program "Mysteries of the Millenium", has been included in "Who's Who in the West", "Who's Who in the US" and "Who's Who in Entertainment".
