Internet Censorship
Apr 17, 2004

Well, censorship is the topic of this piece. Is it right, no, so why must we use it to make other people feel unwanted on www.writing.com. Writing.com is a web site that allows unpublished writers to display their work on the web. This site is a great way to display work of people who did not want to go professional too, until today.

Writing.com censored my sister's handle Ale is here, which ment Aletha is here, because some moron at the site thought that Ale stood for some form of alcoholic beverage. Stupid! Ale is just a nick name my sister's freinds and I gave my sister years ago. Then she complained in her public journal about the censorship. She was told that her journal would be placed in a non- public area of some sort so people would not read her work if she did not remove her complaining journal entry. Is that right? That is censorship at its best in my opinion.

She was a "basic member," which means she had never paid the membership dues of the site, but she is a heart patient with lots of medical bills. The price of memberships on the site has risen from free up to $1,235 for enterprise membership over the last two years. There are other forms of membership that are offered by the site at various prices between free and $1,235. She has been unable to pay such fees.

My sister is no longer a part of Writing.com. She had used Writing.com as therapy, to distract her from her pain. She is a heart patient that has had several painful surgery's over the past couple of years. I think that writing.com has gone too far. They do not need to censor for accidental alcoholic references, and removing a long time member (my sister had been a member for a year and a half) over such a dispute rather than trying to work it out was totally unprofessional behavior. That Writing.com would pick on a disabled woman. Bad form.
