Apr 26, 2004 I am author, my publisher is AUTHORHOUSE, formally know as 1stBooks Library. They are committed to the author, and have come a very long way to help those who love to see their work in print. I for one fill in love with my novel “Executive Betrayal/a Max Stone series” after Authorhouse send me the galley for my book, front cover, and once it got printed, I even love it more. Some would say, self-published authors are not getting any where with their books, who are wasting time, even years on their writing, which end up on the shelf to collect dust. I am one of those author. The self-publishing world is charging the way the old traditional publishing houses do business. They know that the money from internet, eBooks sells has grown, and they what a piece of it, but the question is to what end? Below are a few reason why Authors are moving away from the traditional houses, and into self-publishing. 1.Is the way the old publishing house do business, which is drying up because they don't do often promotions for the authors, the way they their contracts are setup, and sometimes, the publishers are birch of contract to the authors by not promoting their book often. 2.The old publishing houses also have a very nasty hobbit of pulling authors books from the shelf before they can even earn often money for the authors. A life of a book at some of the very well known book stores are only 1, or 2 months. The authors are losing a lot of money from sells. Not allowing the customer to get a chance to read some of their work. 3.Must of the very well known authors, are pushing themselves away from the traditional publishing houses, because of that reason, and sometimes the old publishing houses rarely do any promoting unless he, or she is a very well author to begin with. 4.This is way well known authors are publishing their own work, by (A. starting their publishing house, B. promoting their own work, and C. keeping their royalties to themselves, and not allowing the old publishing house keep 90% of their rights. 5.One more thing, traditional houses are keep 100% royalties on internet sells, and eBooks sells, as the author DOESN'T get a dime from those sells. This is why I, myself and me alone lend towards self-publishing after 4 years of seeing the in's and out's of the publishing world, rejections letters, agents seeing my work, and saying I love the writing, but I need to see more. By the way (NEVER, NEVER send your complete manuscript to an agent, NEVER. The synopsis, and the first chapter is just fine, until you had signed a contract with that agent. And always copyright your work at the copyright office in Washington D.C.). Also, NEVER, EVER send any money to a agent for reading fee's, or whatever the case. The best agents only collect money from the sell of your book to a publisher, and that would be 10% to 15% its all up to you. I am a published author self-publishing, or not. I see my work selling on the internet, people talk about it, I done book signings, newspaper interviews, radio interview, and TV interview. I can really say, to see my work in print is a life long dream, and I can say that I did it on my own, and keep all my rights 100% of my work. If you are looking to publish your short stories, novel, poems than go for it. I can only say that this option works for me, but I can also say the door is wide open for me, and now I am working on the screenplay for my first book “Executive Betrayal” and finish my second book “Lines Between the Sand”, and working on my third book “The Silent Kill”. If you like to see for yourselves, on self- publishing, go to Authorhouse.com. This is my publisher, and see for yourself. Also you can see a free preview of "Executive Betrayal" at the site by typing in my name. ------------ Edwin lives in Cartersville, Georgia and works full-time for a major software company in Atlanta.
