Holloway Case Almost 10 Months Later

I sit in front of my television as Greta Van Susteren reads from statements submitted to the Aruban Police from the suspects. I hear her panel attempting to dissect each word and wonder why I am thinking that these qualified, grown-ups are playing detective with the bare bones of an investigation.

All of their opinions are based on their past experiences in the field of law or police work so what they say is fairly predictable. Jim Hammer, a former Prosecutor will look at the suspects as potential perpetrators, Ted tries to play both cop and lawyer and shakes his head a lot because I get the feeling that he feels that he knows more then the others because he came from investigating and arresting to defending. Bernie is lovable and funny and well liked because he has an obvious compassion and empathy for both victim and suspect alike. Jeff is, well...ego driven.

None of them really know much about the case and it could be said that some of us know even more than they do. The bottom line is that NONE of us know what actually happened to Natalee Holloway and that everything we ALL say is mere speculation based on a web of lies and poor police work.

I sometimes get angry when I hear the defense side of the issues making statements about how poor Joran's life has been ruined. That may well be the truth but just who "ruined" it? Joran did. Guilty or not guilty, he lied himself into a corner and now can't be believed no matter what he claims. He hampered a police investigation and that places him in a position of culpability and even if he never laid a hand on Natalee in a criminal way, he has made it more difficult for justice to be served.

The same can be said of the Kalpoe's. They also hampered a police investigation and lied to protect themselves. Why do any of them need protecting if they are innocent as they now claim. Why lie if you did nothing wrong? When they made up the lie they had no idea if Natalee would show up in an hour or a day and they had no reason to believe that she was gone for good...unless....they knew for a fact that she was.

The first lie was the most telling. They did SOMETHING that they didn't want anyone to find out about.

Simply driving around with a girl and then leaving her on a beach is not a crime. It's stupid and ungentlemanly, but not a crime. There would be no reason to lie about that and the most that could have been said is that they were punks with no manners.

Something else happened that caused them to cook up a mutual lie and that something was serious enough for them to dig themselves the hole that they eventually fell into and now can't emerge from.

I have little hope that the suspects will ever tell us the whole truth of what happened to Natalee because they have gone beyond the point of no return and who is going to believe any of them at this point?

Since we don't live in a real CSI world, even if Natalee is found she herself will offer few clues of what happened to her.Nature has taken care of that and outside of leaving trace evidence and possible forensic material with her body....and outside of her having been stabbed to the bone or hit with blunt force trauma...we will probably never know the truth.

So, the suspects are safe within their zone of lies because thus far, no one can prove otherwise.

Unless the new searches reveal something hidden in the sand or somewhere on Aruba, Natalee Holloway will remain a mystery and eventually a cold case. The lives of her family and of the suspects will never be the same again and unlike her family, the suspects will have brought this stigma upon themselves and I will feel that some sort of justice may have been done. They will pay for their trail of lies and that's all we may ever have that resembles justice for Natalee Holloway.
