FOX Interviews The Van Der Sloot's NYC Lawyer, Mr. Joseph Tacopina

Mar. 8, 2006

FOX's Greta Van Susteren, who for most of the past nine months has been the go-to-gal for Beth Reynolds Holloway-Twitty (the media-maven-loving mother of the missing Natalee Holloway), hosted a live interview on March 7 with Joe Tacopina, an ambitious, articulate and exceedingly successful lawyer who maintains offices in New York City and Milan, Italy.

Mr. Tacopina, who revealed on March 2, 2006, that he would represent Joran van der Sloot in a lawsuit (http://news.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/hway/hwayvds21606cmp.html) filed in the Supreme Court of The State of New York on February 16, 2006, by the plaintiffs, Elizabeth Ann Twitty and Dave Edward Holloway, against the defendants, Joran van der Sloot and Paulus van der Sloot, did not take long to gear up, go on the offensive and fling down the gauntlet.

In an interview granted to Aruba’s Diario newspaper on March 3, 2006, Mr. Tacopina gave short shrift to his client’s detractors and maligners, “…the time has come for them to stop defaming Joran van der Sloot's name, because they can't prove anything and he maintains his innocence.”

Should Mr. Tacopina have burned the midnight oil over the weekend, browsing the Internet for defamations directed against all things van der Sloot, he would indeed have been appalled by what he and his staff could have uncovered: In a third, March 6 FOX interview with the young van der Sloot, viewers learned that “Joran says that Tacopiña works pro bono” http://www.amigoe.com/english/ and, in another eye-opening development, FOX was told in Tuesday’s audience that Joran’s father, Paulus van der Sloot, is also being represented by the same open-eyed (but hopefully steely-eyed) NYC lawyer.

Just in case New York’s (and America’s) defamers and detractors didn’t catch last Friday’s issue of Diario (which was printed in far-off Aruba), Mr. Tacopina read them his new and revised version of Reality 101; “It's not so much against the parents; I don't have them in my bull’s-eye. I have in my bull’s-eye people who are calling him a sexual predator and murderer without a stitch of evidence that supports that. People need to know that the days of slandering and just making statements against Joran van der Sloot publicly are over.”

A clarion call to arms, and a ringing endorsement for innocent until proven guilty—but likely a mighty tough bullet to chew for those who have harnessed their fingers to the HMI waggon and densely populated the Internet with lies, slanders, libels and defamation.

It is doubtful if these detractors, who blithely peopled their perverted little worlds with their poster-boys-for-evil personifications of previously blameless individuals, ever worked on a pro bono basis: Mammon likely motivated their malice.

Ah, well; they are in good company now, no doubt. While Mr.Tacopina may be defending pro bono, the milk of human kindness must curdle when he goes after deep-pocketed defamers, else he wouldn’t be so successful (or be able to maintain and staff offices in New York City and Milan).

Tsk, tsk. It looks like a new player has entered the game: one who walks tall, treads softly and who carries a mighty big stick. A far, far cry from a defenseless 17-year old (the object of some faded roue’s jaded imagination), his genteel, caring mother, and the well-respected and found-innocent father who was rendered mute for so long by his public-service position.

In mid-September, as those detractors waxed magnificently malignant, a day of reckoning was predicted (http://www.useless-knowledge.com/1234/sept/article280.html), yet the spate of vituperation continued unabated. Ample warning was given; and ample warning was gleefully ignored.

“The battle was won—but the war was ultimately lost. El Cid? He was unhorsed, stripped of his armour, returned to his tomb and reburied, as he was only a bloated, dead, empty shell…” Is it time to disinter that bloated, dead, empty shell again and see if a few shekels can be shaken loose from a forgotten pocket?

As someone said, just a few days ago (March 4, to be exact), “My money is on Satish.”

I beg to differ: Not much of that money will get as far as Satish (it's chump change anyway--the big bucks will come from the entertainment networks). However, returning to 'that' money, it’s pleasingly likely that most of it will get diverted, through Mr. Tacopina, to the van der Sloot family.
