Feb. 27, 2006 Prime Minister of Iraq, Ibrahim Jafari, has met in an emergency meeting with Shiite, Sunni Arab and Kurdish political leaders in the hopes of stopping the melee in Iraq of bombings and threatening to send tanks into the streets to prevent further bloodshed. The political leaders met with members of the press after the three hour session. I hope that this will bring about changes in Iraq. Changes for the better. The reason behind my hopefulness is I do not want anymore children and mothers die for their religious beliefs. I would love for Iraq to be able to settle their conflict themselves. But even though this political meeting happened, on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, the violence continued across the county with at least 50 people killed in attacks. In the Shiite holy city of Karbala, a car bomb killed seven people. Three Iraqi officers were also killed in the bombing that was set off by using a wireless device. Do I condone this? Heck no! What kind of world we live in were car bombings are acceptable to everyone but those who find this distasteful and the party involved in creating the bomb? Was the political meeting offensive to those who created and detonated the bomb/ What's worse is that in a village near Baqubah, gunmen entered a home and killed all 12 members of that family and they just happened to be Shiite. Just west of the capital, a roadside bomb exploded in Khan Dari killing one police commando and injuring three others. Saturday morning the discovery of another 28 people happened. 15 in Baghdad and 13 in neighboring Diyala province, this province is a mix of both Sunni and Shiites. So what will bring the Dove of Peace to this war-torn country? I don't think even the arch-angel Gabriel could solve this. ------------ About the author: Kaycee Nilson has completed her first novel, "Night Falls on Chicago."
