Feb. 19, 2006 Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? For those who didn't have Miss Gibson as a Latin teacher, "Who will guard the guardians?" Or in modern terms, who will watch the Arabs who are supposed to be watching for Arab terrorists? For once Michelle Malsbury has something right, and it is because she is actually looking at a policy of the Bush administration from a logical standpoint rather than simply hating all Bush policies. It is perhaps something like the perpetual bears of the stock market--eventually, they will be right. But in the meantime, they've been wrong! The logic, however, is clear this time, and Michelle may have struck upon something.. We are at war with muslim extremist terrorists, and many of these are Arabs. The United Arab Emirates middle name is "Arab." Now it may be the Bush administration's thinking that who better to look for terrorists than somebody who understands the mentality. But some of those who understand the mentality understand it because they agree with it! They are terrorists. On 9/11 we met the enemy, and they is them, to paraphrase Pogo Possum. "Them" being muslim extremists, and mostly Arabs to boot. Now it may be the Bush administration's thinking also includes rewarding the "good Arabs," but again, how can we be sure that some bad apples aren't the bottom of the oil barrel? It just doesn't make sense to turn a sensitive area of our security over to folks who just might be infiltrated by the bad guys. We know now that some of the Iraqi police force have been corrupted by anti-American terrorists. We know that the Saudi Arabian military and police have been infiltrated by some who support terrorism. We know that the police and military of Yemen have their terrorist sympathizers, illustrated by the recent escapes of some of those who planned the USS Cole bombing among others. Now this wouldn't be the first time that the USA gave away its security to an enemy force. I was against Jimmy "Worst President in History" Carter's giveaway of the Panama Canal to the communist Chinese. What, you say? Jimmy the Geek merely gave the Panama Canal back to the Panamanians. Technically that was true, on the surface, but do you know that the Chinese government has bought up the territory at both ends of the Panama Canal? Don't you think that allows them to control our shipping if they wished? Isn't that a very bad idea? So in this case I hope George W. Bush does not imitate Jimmy Carter and turn some of our vital transportation and security over to those who just might be harboring enemies. And what plan does Abu-Dhabi have for our ports? Maybe all they want to do is serve our best interests. But I recall the old science fiction story about some aliens who came to Earth and appeared quite helpful, and they all carried a book with the title, "To Serve Man." Things seemed just fine until someone translated the rest of the book and found out it was a cookbook. If we later find our port security compromised, our goose might be cooked in a nuclear fire. I recall the old song: http://www.enchbyench.com/angie/abadabba.htm "Abu-Dhabi Dhabi Dhabi Dhabi Dhabi Dhabi said the Chimpee to the Monk Abu-Dhabi Dhabi Dhabi Dhabi Dhabi Dhabi said the Monkey to the Chimp." I am not in favor of monkeying around with Abu-Dhabi as the headquarters for our national port security. Besides, I don't speak Abu-Dhabian. Who knows what that song means? Here is a photo I took from a military aircraft over the Panama Canal's Atlantic end several years ago, just about the time China was taking over the entrances. Do you recall the old palindrome, "A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!" Read it backwards. Just what plan does Red China have for the Panama Canal? What plan would the United Arab Emirates have for our national security? We have enough trouble with the terrorist sympathizers in congress and the media without worrying about who's guarding the guardians of our seaports.
