Bush Proposes Domestic Spying

By Kaycee Nilson
Feb. 17, 2006

On Thursday, 16, Feb. 2006, the Senate Republicans blocked the proposal stating that there need to be legislation to establish clearer and more precise rules for the domestic spying. With skepticism over the debate, right now it's anyone's guest on what will happen to this proposal

And now for a personal note about this subject. Our cell phone usage bills are being sold to the government. Next will come those nano-chips like in "Demolition Man." Didn't George Orwell write about "Big Brother Is Watching?"

White House Officials can describe this as "crucial to prevent terrorist attacks in the United States, but when does the line of being a Democracy and being a Militia State cross?

Tactics by Republicans on the Intelligence Committee leaves surveillance operations in place while the White House tries to influence this debate. Critics and I both see this "Domestic Spying" as an abuse of Executive Power and I view it as unconstitutional.

As seen in the "Los Angeles Times: "We maintain that the president does not need additional congressional authority," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. But she said the administration was now willing to discuss a GOP proposal that contained "some good legislative concepts that would not undermine the president's ability to protect Americans."

Legislative concepts that would give the government a new tool to spy on our own citizens? What are we? Pre-War Iraq??? I thought that the Constitution and the Amendments were created to protect our private freedom. I guess I was wrong about this country that prides itself on "Freedom."

This very issue hurts me deeply, because why did my Grand-Father and both Fathers fight in world wars and then loosing Jimmie in Vietnam? What was the reason for our troops to fight wars to protect our "freedom?" This is a travesty to the memory of those lost in fighting for our "freedom" and to help un-oppress other countries. But what do we say to them and to our Vets? "Sorry you had to witness the horror of war, but we are now policing our own citizens with spying on EVERYONE!"

The only thing I can say about this, if people can steal your identity, then why not have the federal government snarling down our necks because we are so stupid that all of us are going to revolt again..(sarcasm intended)
