Loony Muslims And Silly [Clever?] Republicans

By Frederick Smith
Feb. 5, 2006

I haven't had much time to write lately, but I keep hearing news stories that just prod me to write, so here's a quicky, just a collection of some politically incorrect thoughts. DISCLAIMER: I exercise my right to free speech-herein.

First, what's with those loony Muslims? And I thought the Christian Right was bad! The only thing more dangerous than a conservative Christian is a conservative Muslim, at least to my liberal humanist eyes. Offensive cartoons? Please...

If Muslims want the benefits of living in the West or to build their own first-rate, first-world nations, they need to write angry letters to local papers instead of breaking the law. When Muslims can see a picture of an orgy with Mohamed and Catholic nuns involving some bondage stuff and double-ended sex toys without burning something afterwards, then and only then will they belong in modern, open, free, societies. Until then, I recommend they remain under the rule of dictators or under the confines of forced-secularism (sorta) as in Turkey.

The West has “been there, done that” with thought control and religious rule - that time was called the Dark Ages for good reason. It isn't the job of the West to accept Islamic concepts like super-reverence for a book or a mythical-man, it's the job of modern Muslims to understand that their silly faith is but one of a thousand, and by the grace of mankind, there are places that willingly allow them to practice their archaic belief system in relative peace and with open arms. BBC reporters asked Muslims questions such as, “but what about freedom of speech?”. My three year old could provide more coherent answers than the, “yes, BUT”, “yes, BUT”, “yes, BUT” retorts offered.

Some answered along these lines, “if Jesus Christ [was negatively portrayed in the cartoons] people would [do silly illegal things]” - well, obviously, they didn't know that the Catholic church called Monty Python's, “The Life of Brian”, “blasphemous”, and they also obviously haven't seen, “The Meaning of Life”, also by the same group. Catholics and other Christians didn't go hog-wild as a result, not even in Ireland or Italy.

Not that I have any illusions about Christians – it's clear that when given free reign, they do much worse, but in the West we have sensible institutions and laws to keep silly, illogical, superstitious religious fervor caged to some extent, at least for the time being, even with silly non-forward thinking conservatives testing the fence all the time for unprincipled political reasons.

In other Muslim news, here's a message from little ol' me to you, the nation of Iran: As long as religious nuts rule your country, you should be damn lucky the world allows you butter knives, let alone nuclear-tech. If you want more electricity, tie some donkeys to generator wheels and beat the asses of your asses. Or proclaim that Mohamed wanted it so and watch as oodles of humans volunteer to turn the wheels themselves! Seriously though, there are reasonable solutions on the table, like letting Russia handle the nasty details. This is one liberal that fully supports extreme measures, and I'm not alone among like minded souls, believe me. Iran is worth our time, unlike this nasty diversion we got ourselves into in Iraq (but that's another article), and your population actually WANTS democracy, at least in much greater proportion that elsewhere in the Middle East.

Everybody knows that Bush mentioned a few ideas that the Democrats champion. The Democrats supported these ideas when they were obvious. When they were really obvious, Bush didn't care. When they were really-really obvious, Bush didn't care. Now that they are really-really, super-duper obvious, Bush “cares”. We'll see how much is just talk. Of course America is sinking because we don't churn out enough math and science students, I've written about this many many times! Of course America needs to champion investment in high-tech solutions for energy alternatives!

Does anyone still really think that we went to Iraq to bring democracy? That positive outcome which I'd welcome, if it works, is number 11 on the top 10 reasons for the invasion. Ironically, alternative energy sources may prevent future cowboy presidents from making the same mistake.

After all, if we really wanted democracy for the reasons given, we'd involve ourselves in several key African nations (also with hostile Muslim issues) with far worse human rights abuses and other miseries. I hate to keep returning to the Muslim theme here folks, but much of the Middle East isn't ready for democracy. Many of the Eastern European nations weren't quite ready for it either – it's just human nature. Free elections in Saudi Arabia tomorrow would be DISASTEROUS, for example – far worse than voting in Hamas in Palestine.

Bush was caught lying about Global Warming and has made scientifically illiterate statements such as, “the jury is still out on evolution”, so he's hardly a spokesperson for science advancement. The Republican party has become the stupid party – maybe this is an attempt to alter that? Like I said, we'll see. We know that Republicans watch the polls closely, and we know that Republicans take good ideas from the other side when it suits them, but I still fully expect article after article from conservative uk writers claiming some inherent virtue or principle associated with the elephants above pure politics...

I haven't actually been taken by aliens, but good thoughts, Brian ;) Z is actually the spirit of a priest from the True Religion – a religion that we haven't dug up yet. I expect you to be our new savior when the time is right – take us to the Golden Age, Barbeito! Teach us infidels!

The aliens did come, they have tried to make contact! But alas, it didn't quite go as planned.  Anyone offended by that cartoon must now begin shouting, “GOD IS GREAT!”, while setting toy aliens on fire, and then march to the Nevada desert.

About the author Frederick Smith: I enjoy writing about the positive virtues of humanism - humanists are the good guys.

I now have a blog that I will start to increasingly maintain and update. Here is the link:

This is my second foray into the UK writing discordia. This time around, I want to be a tad more raw - maybe a bit edgier (does that sound "art-see"?) Maybe I'll address even more issues that most Americans consider taboo...

About my personal background and life: I was born, I got some education, worked, ate, and had some kids. It seems I like to write something that was unknown to me until relatively recently...How's that for detail? ;)

Hate mail is welcome unless you are from the Army Of God. Please! It's not that I mind seeing pictures of aborted fetuses in my inbox, but once you've seen one you've pretty much seen them all...
