Super Bowl Sunday: It's That Time Of The Year Once Again

On February 5th it will be Super Bowl Sunday. The teams will charge onto the field, the year's new and highly anticipated commercials will air for the first time and if we're lucky we won't be blasted out of our living-rooms by some awful group who have the honor and glory of performing during half-time.

As a red-blooded American female I hate the Super Bowl. I can't stand any football but this particular celebration of the sport is the most annoying of all.

It used to be on television fairly early in the day so I could absent myself to some Mall crowded with like-minded females who want nothing more than to escape the over-powering stench of man sweat and beer combined with nacho breath and belching.

Now it's on late in the day and into the evening and where I live, the Malls close early so I have nowhere to escape to. I can hide in the bedroom or I can buy some ear plugs but that simply won't drown out the noise and the smells of men doing what they love best...watching the game and participating from their comfortable armchairs. It isn't only the smells that bother me, it's the screaming and the refereeing. The armchair quarter-backing and the near-violent reactions to plays that are subject to doubt are enough to drive any sensible human being out of their mind.

I suppose I can comfort myself in the knowledge that this only happens once a year but that would be lulling myself into a false state of mind. It happens in some form or another almost every Sunday, Monday and Thursday for months on end and then there are the Saturday college games to contend with.

Well, it IS over eventually....I can count on that. But then comes basketball and baseball...oh never mind, I give up.

Nachos anyone?
