Prince Harry Might See Some War Action

By Judy Ramsook
Jan. 28, 2006

Volunteering oneself to go to war for the good of his or her country is indeed something that reeks of nobility, courage and an abundance of stamina. Not everyone in our midst might want any part of such dangerous terrain such as indicative of a war zone.

It might not come as a surprise to aome one if he or she learned that one of his or her college class mates has been deployed for the cause after offering himself as a volunteer of course. What happens though, when some one whom one has learned of offering himself for the cause is third in line to the British Throne?

According to a recent news report, when 21 year old Prince Harry joins a division of the Household Cavalry, known as the Blues and Royals, he will be doing just that; when he finishes training in April at the Sandhurst military academy, offering himself and his services to the war in Iraq or he could even see some action in Afghanistan as well. One has to commend his bravery, his mother would be proud certainly, but what impact would his decision have on young people far and wide?

Would some of them be encouraged to volunteer their services, time and energy to the cause as well? Some might be thinking, well if he’s a Prince and he can join, they can too. It might have an impact, in that the Prince’s actions could motivate others into acting as well. Of course taking part in a war is not for everyone, if it were most of the world’s population would offer their services and skills.

This is already known, but one has to prepare himself to tolerate sometimes harsh living conditions, being alert at all of his or her waking moments, and seeing and hearing of an injured fellow soldier’s condition after he or she has suffered a severe injury due to a combat situation.

Furthermore, Prince Harry will undergo training for the purpose. It is a risky venture, but member of the royal family or not, sometimes it’s difficult for some persons to just sit back and not act while persons all around them are doing what they can for their fellow man and country alike.

It might motivate them into thinking they too should be doing something so when such warfare does come to an end, they cannot say or think to themselves that they did nothing. Especially while their fellow citizens were braving whatever they had to in order to survive and fight for the cause for which they volunteered.

This will not be the first time the Household Cavalry will be taking part in wartime operations. It seved during the Falkland islands war in 1982, the Gulf War in 1990 and also in Kosovo and Bosnia.

On a personal note, I do wish Prince Harry and the rest of the soldiers well in his and their venture and for a safe return when their service is through. The late Princess Diana would indeed be proud.
