Jan. 28, 2006 Google has been named the world's most influential brand by online branding magazine brandchannel.com. Google is omnipotent and omniscient, it is the god of our technological society. The ancient Greeks had the Oracle of Delphi, Americans have Google. The most powerful search engine in the world has all the answers. Want to do a background check on your new boyfriend, look for a job or find an answer to trivia question: Google and you shall find. Many Americans indulge in the vain practice of Googling themselves: If you look up your name on the Google search engine and it doesn't yield any hits, you may not exist. Having a lot of hits on Google gives a writer as much credibility as being published by the New York Times. I'd rather find favor with Google than be blessed by the Pope. Google is so big and powerful, that is was able to resist a Department of Justice subpoena of its database. Google against the United States government is a Clash of the Titans, and I wouldn't bet against the mighty search engine. But even gods have weaknesses, Google has launched a Chinese version of its search engine, but is censoring key search items which it believes will upset the totalitarian Chinese government. Google joins Yahoo and Microsoft in using servers hosted in China. This will give it a critical speed advantage over uncensored search engines. By bowing to the Great Firewall of China, Google may have picked up speed, but it lost prestige. I have great respect for free speech and Google; I hope they will reconsider their foolish and cowardly decision. ------------ About the author: Robert Paul Reyes has written over 200 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
