Jan. 27, 2006 James Frey's new book "A Million Little Pieces," is drawing much ado over nothing. The author wrote a book and people are reading his book by the millions. I can't see anything wrong with it. How many others, authors embellish things they lived through and are not thrown under the bus? Well James was thrown under a bus somewhere in his book but that's beside the point. Oprah Winfrey for some reason or another is making a huge deal out of this. If people love what the book say's then why is she being so clearly snobbish, pampas even about this man's work. If she indeed feels hateful about this author's lies and embellishments then why sell more books for the man. In plain English, why dies and left her boss? No one likes to read about a girl named Kate who lives on the farm. Many will flock to read about a girl named Kate who lives on a farm who is a serial killer and uses her farm to hide the victims. The author James Frey had no such life to speak of but had an idea. His idea is helping many to review their own lives and for the better. The reality is if something helps others then why ruin it. Does Oprah have the market sowed up in helping department? Maybe "The Big O" is not having any type of "O" and that's why she is so frustrated these days. She is a butt kisser when it counts and in my book that spells hypocrite. When Madonna wrote a children's book, Oprah was there for her with opened arms. No one brought up the fact that she was a smutty pop star grabbing herself at the drop of a dime. If a doctor gives a placebo to his patients he is doing a service to them even though the drug he administered does nothing for them physically but it does help mentally. This author's book works in the same way and I see no harm. If Oprah thinks she in any way, shape or form is making or breaking a writer's career then she is mistaken. People are not sheep hanging on her every word. People have minds of their own and use them. I never miss an Oprah show. I never watch so I never miss it. Opie Windbag, get a real life.
