Hamasistan Now A Reality

By Craig Chamberlain
Jan. 26, 2006

I am willing to bet that Hamas will not be in power for long if they allow future elections. But the track record of islamists is "one man, one vote; once" and where they have come to power they quickly wear out their welcome with their naziesque rule. After all the Iranians gladly overthrew the Shah and allowed the mullahs to create an islamic republic. Now the Iranians want out of that deal. I don't think Hamas, which won 75 out of 132 seats, is going to be any different. Palestinian Christians are certainly going to find themselves in serious trouble, as will any palestinian, regardless of religion, that thinks they should have some kind of freedom.

Not that I am shedding any tears of Fatah. A political movement that has long condoned terror as well as carried out its own terrorist attacks Fatah was hardly the voice of moderation and reason that many in the media made them out to be. After all this was the party of chief terrorist and kleptocrat Yasser Arafat. But Fatah made the State Department and the diplomats of Europe feel good. Because they knew the right words, and that's what diplomats really care about, the right words. They don't care so much about action.

And Fatah was a master of words. In english, to the western media, they would condemn the latest round of suicide bombings. Even if they were committed by Fatah groups. Then to their own people and the Arab press they would call for more violence, and for the destruction of Israel.

Give hamas this, they might be a group of bood thirsty monsters inspired by a mixture of Mein Kampf and the Koran, at least they are honest about what they want. I doubt they will be the toast of diplomats. After all there won't be any chance for a photo op at peace talks now. Not that Fatah would have honored any peace agreement.

That's what's really pathetic about all of this. The palestinians want violence. Violence that makes their lives miserable for a war they can't win. They won't shake the Israeli's. They will keep building their security fence, and the victory of Hamas might propel Likud back into power in Jerusalem. After all when the barbarians are right outside the wall it's no time for talk. Either way the palestinians aren't going to get what they want. Sooner or later they are going to have to realize that.
