NBC Has Cancelled "The Book Of Daniel"

Well, it appears that the geniuses over at NBC Universal have bowed to the mounting pressure and criticisms from every sector of the viewing public, and cancelled “The Book of Daniel.” What surprised us is that it took a dramatic drop in viewer ratings to convince the “suits” to pull the plug on the show. Out of curiosity, Tracy and I watched The Book of Daniel last week. We almost lost the dinner in our stomachs, when the minister had a “heart to heart, man to man talk” with his son, regarding his forbidden “Romeo & Juliet” sexual relationship – with one of the parishioner’s daughters.

Reverend Daniel (still popping pain pills) decided that he had to be a “father” to his son, rather than a “friend.” Excuse me, the last time I checked – a father son relationship was not a corporate venture. Fathers need to be friends with their children with a dose of authority, when needed. I fully expected to see the Reverend “write-up” his son for the infraction of locking himself out of a room, in his underwear, in the hall of the women’s dormitory.

The program I am sorry to see end its run is “The West Wing.” I have been a fan of the show since it first premiered. However – the spark and steam of the writing appears to have sputtered this season. I guess since there has been a revolving door, concerning the directors and writers of the program – The West Wing is going out gracefully. Who will succeed President Bartlett (Democrat) is anyone’s guess. It would be great to see a Latino as the new president, however – I just do not see that happening. Who knows, maybe we are all going to be in store for a huge surprise. Stay tuned…

“The Commander & Chief’s” innovative spin regarding the first woman president (an Independent, yet) on ABC has caught my attention. The writing is not as “rat-a-tat-tat” as The West Wing used to be. Yet, guided by her “First Husband’s” political savvy – the president appears to be winning over her detractors. The Speaker of the House seems to be running scared, as the first woman President appears to be settling in quite nicely. I have a feeling that the Speaker will try to demolish the Presidents’ reputation as a “leader” in forthcoming episodes – as he contemplates his own run for the presidency. Maybe an “open microphone” off-color remark will seal her fate. I don’t know if this show will win its time-slot, against all the other competition from other networks. Again, stay tuned.

Yes, I am still addicted to all of the CBS “CSI’” programs – including, all of the “Law & Order” and “Crossing Jordan” offerings – Got a problem with that? I didn’t think so –LOL!

“Hey, Argile! When did you assume the “Television Critic” role?” Huh? I was just letting the readers know what my viewing preferences were. Soon, my e-mail box will be jammed with opinions from everyone – I fully expect to be slammed! “Who cares what a former New Yorker, who is living in South Dakota – watches on television!”

While I am on the subject of television programs, the one animated show I would like to see return to prime-time – is “Futurama.” Each night – Monday through Thursday, I stay up and watch that show on [adultswim]. All though that network appears to be running only Season One & Two, I never get tired of watching the mad-cap adventures of “Fry, Bender, and the rest of the crew of “Planet Express.”

Tracy surprised me by purchasing a DVD which contains Season One a few months ago. Whenever I get in a “blue” mood during the day – I pop in the DVD and laugh! At Musicland in the Rushmore, South Dakota Mall, the rest of the DVD’s containing all of the programs of Futurama, are very costly. Yeah, I know – they are available “used” on Amazon or Ebay. However, the CD recorder / player in my computer just quit and must be replaced. I am still tossing the coin to decide if “The Geek Squad” from Best Buy should make a “house-call” or I should just unplug everything from the “box” and bring it down to the store. Decisions, decisions, decisions…. Has anyone out there in U-K land – had any experience with the Geek Squad coming over to their house and repairing a computer? I would appreciate any input on this matter. Data! I need data to render a decision. Okay, I really need a cup of coffee to reset my mind – Later Folks!
