Bin Laden, Been Worryin'

By Craig Chamberlain
Jan. 20, 2006

It must be tough for old Usama. (Apparently alive and well after realeasing an audiotape yesterday. Damn) Five short years ago he was master of the most feared terrorist network in the world, he had several attacks to his credit, and went to bed at night with visions of a caliphate dancing in his head. He had Afghanistan just the way he wanted it. Women couldn't leave their homes without their burqas and a male relative, they couldn't get an education. Men were forced to grow beards and were dragged to the mosque five times a day for prayer.Truly, utopia was starting to blossom.

What a difference a few years can make.He no base of operations, most of his men are dead or captured, once a hero to millions of muslims he has fallen out of favor. His ally in Iraq is out of power, and that upstart Zarqawi is now more famous(and maybe more wanted) than he is.

Despite his efforts at spin, things are going badly for him and his fascists in Iraq. They are only able to operate in a small section of the country, the sunni tirangle, and even that is beginning to close to them. They have been unable to stop the democratic process, and despite the deaths of 2,000 American soldiers we haven't left yet. (I wonder if he regrets calling us a paper tiger?)

It must all be very depressing. That's why he had to release this tape, to convince the world he's still alive. I, like everyone else, just wish he would die in a spectacuarly violent manner. But this tape is just a little reminder to the world. He needs to let the world know that big bad Usama is planning attacks and infidels are going to die.

But at the same time he might be open to a truce if we offered one. Let's translate that real quick. He's getting his butt kicked, and needs time to lick his wounds but can't admit it. It's always the losers who are talking peace, the confederates after Gettysburg, some members of the nazi movement as the red army moved in, and now UBL. Unfortunately for Bin Laden, Bush isn't as stupid or as cowardly as the left and the islamists say he is.

I wonder what his conditions are? Not that he means a word of what he says, but what does he expect we'll give him in exchange for a cease fire? Leave Iraq? Give Afghanistan back to the Taliban? Pay him off so he'll leave us alone? Does he think he's dealing with a democratic president, or something?

I don't know what the White House is planning, but I imagine it goes a little something like this. Keep fighting them in Iraq, keep breaking up their cells, rebuild Afghanistan, keep listening to the terrorists, and keep hunting him.

Sounds good to me. Who knows, maybe his next message will be a lot shorter. Along the lines of "I give up" I doubt it though. But he know's we're winning, let's make sure we don't forget that.
