Jill Carroll And The "Demands" Of Terrorists

By Samuel Sandbaugh
Jan. 18, 2006

In today’s paper and on the internet I was greeted with the demands of terrorists who say they will kill female American journalist Jill Carroll unless all the female detainees in Iraqi prisons are released.

There has been a recent increase in the numbers of women who have been willing to strap on bomb vests and martyr themselves for the cause; whatever the cause might be. I suppose that will be the fate of any female released back to their terrorist male counterparts.

I have to wonder about journalists. Do journalists have causes? What is it that a journalist will risk life or limb to find that perfect interview or story? Is the Pulitzer or the Nobel prize for literature so important that the story becomes a goal more important than the breath of life?

From all the accounts I have read, it seems Jill Carroll was set up for the kidnapping. She and her interpreter were expecting to meet an important Sunni Arab that didn’t show for the interview. The kidnappers did show; killing the interpreter and now making demands for the release of Ms. Carroll.

I believe the Sunni Arabs have proven they cannot be trusted. They ignored the first election balloting, thinking their protest might stall the government in some way from drawing a constitution. Realizing their mistake and knowing they needed some type of representation in the new government they participated more fully in the last election, but then immediately began crying about the illegality of the elections. The Sunnis believe they are entitled to more representation.

Everyone who monitors the war in Iraq is in agreement the so-called “insurgency” is largely being run by Sunnis and supported by Iran. The Sunnis cannot be trusted with helping to write the constitution. Their recent proposal for changes in the document just approved by the voters would drive Iraq into the arms of the clerics and create a second Iranian Islamic-fascist State. This is the self-important drive of Al-Zachawi and his followers in Iraq.

What does it matter what any terrorist wants? It is not up to the Western Nations to give these murderers anything but a bullet from a gun or a grenade in their rat-hole. America has lived through years of giving the terrorists room. We gave them room in Afghanistan and the Taliban took that room to support the terrorists responsible for 9/11/2001.

We gave the terrorists room in Somalia and watched as they took the room to kill American soldiers. We gave the terrorists room in the Sudan and watched the Sudan give Osama a chance to escape custody to the mountains of Afghanistan to plot more attacks against American targets.

The lesson is very plain that you cannot give the terrorists any room at all. They only deserve death. That is what they deal. They should be made to lose every hand. The terrorists in Israel have been given land and authority and all manner of pardon for the many atrocities of their homicide killers. They continue to solicit murderers because the bottom line for the Palestinians has always been to completely destroy Israel. Now, it seems the new ally is Iran. Iran is not paying the families of homicide killers $25,000 per household, but Iran is training the terrorist squads of volunteers and helping to distribute the killers throughout the Middle East. Iran has been a terrorist state since the seizure of the American Embassy there in 1979.

America should have sent in the Marines within a week of that attack on American soil. That did not happen and for the next 444 days America was shown as a weak and helpless world power against the powerful god of Islam. Iran is trying to regain those glory days.

As much as I am concerned for the lives of the journalists who report the madness of war, I am also concerned that we are looking at journalists as people who are above this fray. Why would anyone think they would be immune from a bullet or a blade because they are unarmed in a war zone? Has anyone considered all the innocent people in the war zone? Journalists are not the only innocents being killed or kidnapped. When you walk in a war zone you take your own chances and make your own breaks.

I think it is a very well known fact that America has laid down the law that it will not negotiate with terrorists. I know this rule is broken every time we talk to Palestinians or negotiate with North Korea. I see that double standard and it does bother me.

We should end all negotiation with Iran and just turn their nuclear power plants into rubble. That is after we extract all our humanitarian aid workers still rebuilding the Iranian city of Bam that was destroyed by earthquake. Then we should end all participation in the Palestinian issue until the Palestinians end the rocket attacks and the homicide killings. That is after we cut off the $75 million dollars in annual aid to the Palestinian state that they have used to purchase Chinese weapons. Then we should remind North Korea of what we accomplished in Iran and explain very politely that we will plan the same for their “peaceful” power plants unless they end nuclear weapons production. That is after we remind them that they never signed an official treaty of peace. That should be the sole extent of our negotiations with terrorists.

Finally, we might want to teach the Pakistanis some perspective. They are in mass demonstration against the America that is currently heavily involved in the saving of some 87,000 people recently affected by a massive earthquake there. We have sent in medical units and supply support units that have been the sole source of food, water, and medical aid distribution for the region. Perhaps we should just “go home” like the demonstrators want. Let them police up their own earthquake rubble. Let them bury their own dead.

Negotiation, appeasement and humanitarian aid; much of it freely given without thought of recompense and the Islamic radicals still strap on their bombs to kill the infidels who are the ones with the guts and the hearts to help. The terrorists can make all the demands they want. It is my hope that the United States will not accede to any of them.
