Osama Bin Laden's Niece, Wafah Dufour's Recent Photos In GQ

By Judy Ramsook
Jan. 2, 2006

A few years ago while I was still in college, I stopped en route to my apartment at a convenience store to purchase a couple of things and use the pay phone. The cellular telephone industry had not yet mushroomed into what it has become today.

Upon hanging up the telephone, I was approached by a young man who asked if I would have been interessted in making movies, throwing around such words as pornograhy and videos in the same sentence.

Given my conservative Christian/Hindu background, (my mother is Christian, Anglican or Church Of England, my father is Hindu) I was appalled and a little angry that some one would ask me such a question. I will also add here that I was much slimmer then than I am in the photo or am presently.

Anyway, given that Osama Bin Laden’s niece, Wafah Dufour’s recent photos in the January edition of GQ have caused a bit of a stir, I was wondering, how many of you women would really want to bare it all for a media outlet if given the opportunity to do so?

Say, for example, you did not need such funds for paying off outstanding student loans, (I don’t have any) were drowning in debt, or had a family member from whom you were trying to break away? Would you think just of yourself and not about how others in the same family circle will view you after taking such action?

Will it matter long after the photos have been published and you are at home wondering what have you done, for now some people whom you considered to be your friends make an abundance of excuses whenever you express an interest in a social outing with them.

Having and using free will is great, but how far are some individuals willing to go in order to take advantage of such freedom? Most of all, how will it make you feel should you decide to bare it all for a certain magazine for everyone to see?

I knew if I made such a daring move for whatever justifiable reason, I would be disowned and sought after, (my father is a retired Court Prosecutor) so I could be prevented from bringing further shame to the family and their name, whether I used an alias or not.

On a personal note, I would not even wear a pair of shorts to a family gathering much less for stripping down and baring all for everyone to see between the pages of some magazine.
