Dec. 26, 2005 I was going through my “stuff” inbox the other day and that produced my last article. It also sorted into about six different piles of common ground articles that suggested as many columns. One of those articles was by Leo Shane III of the “Stars and Stripes” entitles: “Christian Lawmakers want to Protect Chaplain’s Speech”. We know that the Air Force Academy was sued by a discontented person feeling left out and that the assistant to the academy staff lost his position because e was a Christian who shared his view on God as his personal faith directed him to do. This situation forced a massive investigation of all the Christian teachers and students and forced those found to be Christians into a retraining program to ensure they became more sensitive to the needs of cadets that did not believe in the Christian God. The Christian airmen were also given new guidelines on where and when they could pray and they were told that mentioning Jesus was inappropriate because it upset people. Of course, Jesus is the Christian God. Can’t have Christians talking about God now can we? All the new religious rules are directed at Christianity and enforced against the God of the Christians. Well, it turns out the Air Force Academy isn’t the only lace cracking down on talk about the Christian God. To quote the article: “Rep. Walter Jones R-N.C. said he was receiving letters from Chaplains, both stateside and deployed oversea, complaining that superior officers have criticized them for using Bible verses and invoking the name of Jesus in memorial services, pre-mission remarks and other events outside their religious services.” First: to criticize a Chaplain for speaking about God makes as much sense as criticizing a lawyer talking about the law or a scientist talking about science. What else is a Chaplain suppose to talk about? Second: to ask a Christian Chaplain not to use the Bible is like asking a lawyer to ignore all precedent when arguing a case or like asking a scientist to avoid quoting Darwin when speaking of evolution! That Congressmen feel the need to protect the free speech of any religious constituent in this age is appalling. That only Christian Congressmen are involved in this constitutional debate is equally appalling. The entire House and Senate should be yelling at those who dare tell Christian Chaplains to be quiet. They each should be asking why only Christian Chaplains are being restricted from speaking about their God from their Bible! Too, I noticed from the article that only 35 Congresspersons signed onto the letter that was sent to “the acting secretary of the Air Force” asking for protection. It might have been true that there were only 35 actual Christians in Congress. The rest were perhaps similar to the so-called Christian standard of John Kerry, the Catholic who agrees with abortion or the liberal standard of burn all bibles and replace them with all the scientific gobbledygook we can to smother those ignorant and backward people of faith. Yet a comparable article: “Air Force urged to rethink new religion, prayer guidelines” by Alan Cooperman of “The Washington Post” told me there were seventy members of Congress who sent a similar letter to President Bush. I have not seen the list of all the seventy signers, but only one that was named was a Democrat (Mike McIntyre, D-N.C.) Wouldn’t want all you guys and gals thinking this wasn’t a bi-partisan effort to protect individual constitutional rights now. Now comes the change-up. If you know the name Jimmy Massey, you know him as a bestselling author in France for his tell-all-atrocities book “Kill, Kill, Kill”. You might know him from various liberal media sources for his stories of atrocities he and other Marines committed while deployed to Iraq. The article: “Former Marine’s atrocious claims to fame” by Ron Harris of the “St. Louis Post-Dispatch” (Nov 7) tells me all about the lecture circuit and the book signings and about how this great guy went all over the world, doing his best John Kerry impersonation against all things American and military. It turns out this media darling is a teller of tall tales in the vein of Dick Durbin, John Kerry, Dan Rather, Joe Wilson and other great liars of recent history. Yet, Massey’s lies gained him fame while the speech of Christian Chaplains who know what lies are and try hard to tell people not to tell lies, is curtailed.
