Sept. 29, 2005 “1 Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” (Psalm 1:1-6) There is a verse in First Corinthians that tells the Christian that God uses the simple things to confound the wise. How may times have we read and heard the confusion of men in asking how God would ever be so cruel as to send sinners to hell? How simple does God have to make the wording of his Book to help men understand the singular way to life everlasting? The goals of the ungodly are what; leaving God? The counsel of the ungodly is what; don’t bother to repent and die? The seat of the ungodly is a seat of scorn; it is not a seat one delights in. The man who walks in the counsel of God is a “tree”; watered perpetually so that his “leaf” would never whither and his “fruit” would always arrive in the proper season. To be a tree so reliable is a goal worthy of any Christian. Having roots planted firmly in faith; never wavering from the work of the ministry. No, I am not so much discussing being a minister, but every Christian has the duty to share his testimony without fear to those who do not know God, or who scoff at God. What can the ungodly do? They are “chaff”. They blow around without direction. The winds carry them here and there. They get to see a lot of territory. They may even get to experience a lot of different things in their lives, but they are listless and without goals based in eternity. They’re goals are in the physical; taking no thought about spiritual matters of relationship with God. The ungodly will not “stand in the judgment” of the righteous. Every Christian knows he yet faces a judgment of his works before God. First Corinthians Chapter three explains our works and our judgment and the results of that judgment. The ungodly will not be there. They will have no place there. Yet the ungodly will have their day. They will face a judgment of works at God throne and none of that will matter. The true test will be that of faith. Salvation has always been that matter of faith “without works”. You can read of the judgment of the ungodly in Revelation Chapter 20. The “way of the ungodly” will indeed “perish”. There is nothing much a Christian can do except what he has been asked to do. A Christian is asked to pray and testify of the truth. God’s word is the only truth that matters in matters of the eternal. There is no need to get wrapped around the matters of the ungodly. Their ways draw men away from truth and away from life eternal. I understand the need to be among sinners. Jesus saw that need especially. He tells us it is the sick that need the healer and he is certainly the greatest healer of men even today. It is up to us to witness in truth and in the Spirit and then just get out of the way and let God do the work. Christian; be assured, God knows your way. You can let the ungodly take their chances with the wind.
