Sept. 27, 2005 So you want to purchase a new cellular telephone with the high tech gadgets. You know like the camera phone, text messaging, internet access and more features, but you do not want to part with the one you now possess by just discarding it in the trash bin. And since no one else can have it since it contains your telephone number, and numbers you frequently called, you place it in that all too familiar junk drawer. But wait, there is something that it can be used for. Although some of these previously used cellular phones are refurbished for overseas markets such as Latin America, Asia and Africa so they can be used as pre paid phones, others are used for their parts, and some are sold to charitable organisations, such as breast cancer awareness groups and the special olympics, just to name a couple, to raise funds for those charities and the rest are recycled in accordance with EPA standards. In addition, some of the cellular telephones that are donated are used by victims of domestic abuse. So if you wish to clear out your junk drawer of those old, used, cellular phones go to the cellular telephone store of your choice, and place them in the donation bin( there is one in each cell phone store.) If not, check your local telephone directory for cell phone recycling centres These used cell phones are returned to the manufacturer, where they are refurbished and reprogrammed into 911 phones so victims of domestic abuse can have something to call for assistance in case they need it. For most victims of this sort of abuse do not have the means to purchase or afford to buy cellular telephones, especially if they are in a situation in which the abuser has total control. Like he might be the main breadwinner, does not want the wife or mate to drive, keeps a close eye on their mates’ whereabouts and so on. So instead of piling up those previously used cell phones in some drawer, donate them for a few good causes.
