Sept. 27, 2005 Charles Rangel, Al Sharpten, Jesse Jackson, many of the so-called religious leaders and the elected black representatives in congress are using race bating comments in there opposition to the Bush Administration. Charley Rangel [D H/R NYC] on the Hannity and Colmes show accused President Bush for the poverty in New Orleans. How ridiculous can he be, how stupid can he be? Poverty has existed in America from the beginning, to blame a president any president is beyond ridiculous, it’s beyond stupid. If anyone’s to blame for poverty it’s the Congress of the United States. Where do the so-called entitlements [welfare] end and personal responsibility began? Forty plus years with few results is enough. Like everything about hurricane Katrina, poverty among the black community has been over exaggerated. Not every black can live in style like Al, Charley, and Jesse. Where are the blacks who profited from forty years of investment in the black community, why aren’t they speaking out? Where are the collage graduates who took advantage of affirmative action. Where are the black students who profited by grants paid for with white taxpayer’s money? The time is near when blacks must put up or shut up. They need to stop blaming White America for their inability to progress beyond the ghettos. With the exception of the English and Germans, every other nationality who came to America as ethnics, Italians, Irish, Spanish, Balkans, Easter Europeans. All within a short period have worked their way into mainstream America. As a white American I’ve about had it with the “Poor Black Me” rhetoric we hear at every opportunity blacks have to pin something on the white community. No group of people has been afforded the opportunity to succeed that’s been given to African Americans. No group’s had the investment by the taxpaying public that African Americans have had. For the past forty years, the government’s been pumping money into education. job training, childcare, housing, sustenance payments, the list goes on. If it isn’t working then perhaps we should revise they system and require performance for payment. I’ll be called a racist because I am speaking out. I’m willing to match my civil rights work with anyone who care to challenge me. The time has come to place the title of Racist on those who deserve it, blacks who cloud the system for profit at the expense of those who truly deserve help. America just opened their homes, wallets, and hearts without regard to race, religion, or color. Where are the Jesse’s, Charley’s, and Al’s saying thanks, instead they bash us for not doing enough. It’s time for forgo the African American identity and become Americans along with the rest of us. Take the same lumps we take, reap the same rewards, become us not them. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is prone to an occasional grammatical error and an occasional misspelled word.
