Sept. 26, 2005 This is one of the things that separates patient shoppers from the not so patient ones, what is it? Being able to wait around long enough so the sales person on whom you are waiting to arrive in your aisle to help you find that unfamiliar item you have gone to purchase. And the more often you come into direct contact with a sales person at a retail outlet, it dawns on you that it might be more beneficial to you if you knew what you were looking for. Maybe it’s the self service image most retail outlets have that make you feel this way. You know, you walk into the store, find what you want and take it to one of the cashiers. But if you are not certain of the type of merchadise you are looking for, such as an item that you have never had to purchase before, then you might welcome some employee assistance. Sometimes it’s the waiting for the assistance that can seem like an eternity, especially if you have to wait for a sales person who is familiar with the type of merchandise you are seeking. For upon finding a sales person, you learn that he/she does not work in the department that you need the item from, but he/she informs you that he/she will send some one who works in the aisle where that item you are seeking might be. So, you return to the aisle to wait for the employee who will soon show up, right? Not always. Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes and while you are waiting, thoughts are going through your mind. Thoughts such as, maybe you should go elsewhere and just as you turn to walk away, the employee shows up to help you. And after explaining to him/her what it is you are seeking, the item is found among the same store shelves you checked while waiting for the retail expert to show up. Now that wasn’t so hard was it? Just a little annoying because you had to wait for what may have seemed too long for the sales person to arrive. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
