My Commitment To Natalee Holloway

By Patrick Hurley
Sept. 26, 2005

I need to set the record straight just so there are not any rumors floating around out there concerning my support of the Holloway and Twitty families.

First of all, I have never been paid financially for any of my articles concerning this case. Even if I were offered any compensation in any way, I would refuse it. I used to work in the political arena just out of college and I made a decision back then to live my life passionately based upon what I believe in, not what I had to do to make money for something profitable. That is the reason I left the political arena and committed my life to motivating kids concerning messages I believe in. I have not changed that philosophy. I never will.

Secondly, I have never met any of Natalee's family nor have I talked to them on the phone. I have also not met any of her family's representatives. Like most of the readers following this story, I write about it from my heart. As a father of a daughter who just turned 21, I feel deeply for the parents involved in Natalee's disappearance. I ache for them. That's it. That is my motivation. I am not even that great of a writer, I just express what I can to defend them at every turn.

Finally, I do not hate or have ill will towards any writer or person who is critical of the Holloway-Twitty family. I do not understand the criticism from a parental perspective, but I understand this is a free country and people have the right to form their own opinions. I do not respect however, taking literary shots at Beth or Dave Holloway just because they have raised a lot of money or have been aggressive in finding their daughter. These are parents who cannot defend themselves against literary sarcasm. They are focused not on what we write for or against them, but on the one thing they care about the most...finding their child.

It is horrific what has happened to Natalee Holloway. I do not believe she walked away or is playing a rebellious game of hide and seek because she hated her home life. I believe she is dead, buried deep beneath the sea. I do not know how she died, but, I do know that the three boys have that information and have gotten away with either sexual assault and murder or sexual assault that contributed to Natalee's demise.

I will say this in closing; if it had been my daughter I would have done even more than Beth Holloway. I would have moved heaven and earth and brought a living hell to anyone who I believed harmed my child in any way. I would not stop until I found out the truth. I would have made Beth's efforts look tame in comparison. I would not give a rat's ass about Katrina, the people in New Orleans, racist overtones, other world problems or anything else happening in the universe. My child is priority #1. Period. I would give my life for her. That may sound extreme to anyone who is childless and I understand that. But, a parent's love knows no rules, no boundaries and no time limits. If I could raise a billion dollars and make Aruba DISAPPEAR to find my little girl, I would.

I am just really sad about what Dave Holloway and Beth Twitty have gone through. I always will be.
