Sept. 26, 2005 When you walk into a store to purchase something or the automotive section of a department store to have your vehicle serviced, you expect good customer service, right? The following did not personally occur to me, but some one I happen to know. Well, sometimes the service you expect is not the type of courteous service you may always receive, even though you know that without you, the customer, retail outlets might have trouble remaining successful. So say you are having a great day, the sun is shining, and your serotonin level is in high gear when you walk into that store. But your mood quickly changes when you notice that no matter how hard you try or how often you say, excuse me I need some help here or something to that effect, you get the idea, there you are, still standing and waiting. And as you sigh in frustration as one of the store attendants takes up with a customer who showed up after you did, you spot a store employee who is busy chatting with a fellow worker, so you figure now is your chance, if you could just get his/her attention. The thing is, that employee whom you spotted, has noticed you as well, but still continues to chat with his/her fellow worker. That is until the employee with whom the other one is talking to tells him/her that you, a customer is in need of some assistance. At that point, the employee walks over to you to offer the help you have clamouring for all along. You are relieved that finally, after all that waiting, you have been tended to. Sometimes when you hear of such incidents, they make you wonder, and where is a store manager when you need him/her the most. Not mainly because you might want to lodge a complaint, but because you want to see if the manager is aware that that type of lackadaisical behaviour is being displayed by some of his/her employees in his/her store. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
