Tiny Accomplishment, But Boy Does It Feel Good!

For those of you that hit the "Columnist List" from time to time, you will notice that recently, my name has gone from the bottom of the list to the crucial "100+ Club." For many of you, this might not seem like much but for me, this is an honor.

This means that I have written over 100 columns. Some I have gotten accolades from readers and others I have gotten pure mean hate mail over. But would I change any of the columns that got me here? Heck no. Some of them are written about things that have touched my heart, others I felt like I needed to kick down some doors and inform as much of the public that reads my columns. I know I have fans and I know I have people that skip my name as soon as they see it. But I hope that some of my message has hit home for some.

My three biggest fans, Mom, Dad and Dan, have always been behind me since column 1. My three children have been proud to tell their teachers about the site because I have written about one child’s teacher and I often write about my children. For you see, in my life, my family DOES come first and foremost. I often put them above myself a lot of the time and my doctors and my Mother always get on my case for not putting myself first at times.

But I thank God for these three children that he brought through my body and now I thank him for my sixteen-year-old surrogate daughter that he has brought into my life. I also thank him every night for allowing Dan to cross my path. And I also thank him for Stewart and for Useless Knowledge.

Useless Knowledge is my outlet and my way of informing the world about issues that they may not otherwise know about. It’s also my outlet of just blowing off steam or letting the public know just how much my family means to me and how much I am grateful for their support during my endeavors to write. It’s my way of saying to the world, "Hey this is going on and it’s not fair," or "Hey did you know that in _________ this happened?"

There have been so many of my friends that have read my columns and they will call me and say "Oh I loved _______ column." Or "I really didn’t care for the subject of _______ column, why did you write that particular column?" (Such as my cannibal series that I will be picking back up on soon) But the biggest thing is to make people stop and think while they read. That is the true mission, to write something so profound that when someone reads it, they go, "Whoa!" While they read it. I think that some of my fellow columnists feel the same way, ala the recent column called "The Siblings" written by Bob D Caterino.

Also in this list I could list other columnists that I look up to, names like Judy Ramsook, Brian Barbeito, Stan Grimes, Timothy N. Stelly, Sr., Samantha King, Brooks A. Mick, M.D., and many others that would fill the rest of this column. I have the pleasure of calling many of these columnists my friends and they have supported me and given me encouragement along the way. I enjoy our emails back and forth to each other. Those emails mean more to me than they will ever know.

But to finally hit the "100+ Club," in my mind means that I have hit the big time and now it’s time for me to step up to the plate and prove that I belong there.
