Religion Has Gone To The Dogs

By Robert Paul Reyes
Sept. 20, 2005

A picture is worth a thousand words, the image of a dog praying with monks in a temple speaks volumes about the foolishness of religion.

A dog at a temple in South Korea has learned to sit, stay and perform Buddhist pray rituals alongside the monks.

The mutt's prayers are as ineffective as those of the monks, hopefully those who observe this curious scene will realize that prayer is a waste of time and that they would be better off doing something more useful.

Some Buddhists who believe in reincarnation, are wondering what the canine may have been in a past life. Since "dog" spelled backwards is "god", maybe the pooch was a deity in a former life?

But I won't entirely dismiss the idea of a praying hound, I'd rather have a dog pray for me, than a sanctimonious hypocrite like Jerry Falwell.

Religion has truly gone to the dogs, I will leave the empty ritual of praying to monks, dogs and charlatans.
