Natalee Holloway's Mother Vows, "I, Too, Shall Return!"

By Dayo Gould
Sept. 7, 2005

Against the back-drop of a gorgeous Caribbean sunset, Beth Holloway, mother of missing Alabama honour student, Natalee Holloway, posed for her last photo shoot in foreign Aruba.

Standing off-shore in waters that lapped seductively around her dimpled knees, with the rocks in her pockets anchoring her firmly to the golden-sand seabed lest she, too, be swept out to sea by an errant wave, Beth Holloway-Twitty tearfully announced that she was departing the balmy climes of Aruba but vowed, like General Douglas MacArthur, "I shall return!"

In the foreground was a life-sized picture of General George S Patton, with the caption "I shall return" emblazoned on the bottom, and playing in the background was a recording of Winston S Churchhill intoning, "We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields, and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!"

Where, you ask, did Beth get that miscaptioned picture that was so proudly displayed? Undoubtedly some damn Arubian sharpie, who was cleaning out his attic, saw an opportunity to unload his unwanted (and, sadly, spurious) treasure on a naive Southern belle.

Alas, a fool and her money are soon parted. Oh, well, it's not as if she's a history teacher--and Alabama, with its creation-based curriculum, has decreed that history officially stopped when the Confederacy lost the War, so it is no wonder Beth’s entourage got rooked.

No matter, that was just another example of the ingratitude shown by a third-world country to the first-class mother of the vanished Natalee Holloway, the beautiful missing-from-Aruba Alabama honours student who, according to various websites, was awarded an eight-year, full-ride scholarship for a four-year premedicine degree at the University of Alabama.

Beth's entourage held a closing-out sale in the hotel's lobby and parking lot, and disposed of the last 16,347 'Remember Natalee' string bracelets at greatly reduced prices; they then cleaned out their suites of rooms and departed for the airport.

In her final pronouncement from Aruban soil, it was boldly declared, “I will never allow my daughter’s voice to be silenced, but I have exhausted all my avenues in Aruba,” Holloway-Twitty told The Associated Press. She said she will visit “frequently” and promised to fight for justice from her home in the United States."

Fighting for justice in the United States will be an expensive proposition, indeed. It would be wonderful if Beth could see her way to generously awarding the franchises for the sale of 'Remember Natalee' bracelets to the 250,000 flooded-state refugees now staying in various shelters.

That magnanimous gesture would expose the refugees to the work ethic; would greatly assist God in His work; and God’s work would then miraculously fill the sadly depleted coffers of the various Natalee Funds so that they, too, could return to their former glory and fullness.
