Hurricane Katrina: Real News Replaces Natalee Holloway Soap Opera

By Robert Paul Reyes
Sept. 5, 2005

Beth Holloway Twitty's anguish over the disappearance of her daughter is understandable, her setting up camp underneath the glare of TV cameras is not.

The disappearance and likely death of Natalee Holloway is a personal tragedy, but it is not a national catastrophe that demands 24/7 coverage by the cable news outlets.

It took Hurricane Katrina and the death of thousands of mostly black victims in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast to rid the airwaves of the wall-to-wall coverage of a missing attractive blond teenager.

Even Greta Van Susteren has been forced to cover the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, she will have to indefinitely postpone interviews with Natalee Holloway's manicurist and dental hygienist.

Now that the cable news stations are covering a real story, Beth Holloway Twitty can return to being a wife and a mother to her 16-year old son.

Thank goodness the media has stopped obsessing over a corpse in Aruba that will likely never be found, and started covering the search and rescue of Hurricane Katrina's many victims.
