I May Have Been Misunderstood In An Article I Wrote 'Bout Halloween

By Tracey Lin O'Very
Oct. 28, 2005

A year ago I wrote an article about Halloween and the origin of it. In doing so I worded something at the end of it that may have been misconstrued as calling witches sick and twisted. That is not so. For one, I have always thought it’d be kind of neat to be a witch. After watching all the shows and the imagination running wild like it does. How nice life would be if the fictitious shows could be a reality. Wouldn’t that be so nice! And then too, after reading Eric George’s last book he wrote on the Harry Potter series really made me wish I could take some of the things written in his book and practice the things I noticed he’d written that I find myself doing at times. I’d never really thought about it until I read his fantastic book, but it sure would be neat! Just on his book here really quick, although he’s put some naughty parts in there the story is so magnificent that if he took those parts out it’d be a PG rated book. Great story!

I’d only want to enhance my abilities, only for the good of it though. Never any harm or bad days created for anyone in this world. Shoot there’s enough people in this world that do that on a daily basis as often and as much as possible. No matter where one turns these days, it seems like someone always is there to screw up a perfectly good day! I hate that! Why do people feel the need just to mess with others? It’s so unnecessary.

Anyways, back to what I was saying here, I want to clear the air and hope that I can make it right and understood to those I may have offended in that article. I was saying that the people who poison the candy, put razor blades in them and all the other sick things that people have done to Innocent little children and adults too, on the one night of family fun imaginations and creativity are those I was calling sick and twisted. Those are the ones that have taken and destroyed the trick or treating nights away. These kids now have no idea what Halloween was to me and others in my generation and before and that’s a shame, a real shame. But I guess that’s pretty well how everything is now-a-days. So many things, too many things have changed so much in this world. No more creativity no more exercise, no more imaginations and ingenuity do these children have. It’s taking away from their self-accomplishments, self-pride, self-respect and self-esteem, driving them on to a better creation and invention and how to make things work better. Like bicycles and homemade skateboards and scooters, hobbies, and all the other fun things we learned to do. All the things we used to do as children, was so fun, such a challenge, a self-challenge, self-respect and esteem, which I still find myself doing today, in just about everything I do. From my jobs to my home life, I always find myself challenging myself to do better. Hopefully, those days will return and these children will not miss out on good wholesome, challenging, self-assertive, creative ways of life. Bringing them off the chairs and away from the computers and out to find their minds and all that is really in there.

Everything is given to them now a-days, except what will get them through when tough times may fall upon them. They’re too alone, jammed into schools like prisoners, with way too much homework, that’s not healthy either. They need play time. They definitely need play time, family time, that’s how life should be lived. But I’m not really saying anything new there am I?

I’m not so small that I can’t say, “Hey! I’m sorry if my words hurt you and took a smile away from you. I had no intentions of doing that, not in the least bit and I hope this will put back that smile I may have taken away from you. It’s a beautiful smile and is definitely needed on this earth. There’s not enough smiling and I meant you no harm. I hope that all will acknowledge my apology, of what may have been misunderstood of what I was saying.” And Hey! Remember, witches do not fly on brooms, have green faces, warts on their noses and all are not evil. Let’s not let the fictitious pictures we see at Halloween and in the movies be misinterpreted and the way we vision witches to be. They are human beings just like you and I, with a talent, theirs’ being whatever they may do, like others may be a columnist or artist, carpenter or whatever your talent may be. But, we each were given a special talent, a gift to give that only we, each individual, have to bring this world. Take time to cherish that gift all have brought to this world, not only humans but every life on this earth. Don’t be so afraid of those who are different than you. They are different because we are all individuals! Not clones or robots. Don’t be afraid to be just that, Individual!!

And remember to do as my motto, and ©book title and poem, which I try to live by every day, to… Stop, place the shoe on the other foot, Think, about the words before you let them out or the actions before they are irreversible and cause devastation to one, Look, at the whole situation, into their eyes, your heart and theirs, Listen with your eyes, heart as well as your ears, and Help someone who may need a helping hand, “…whether asked of you, or just seen needed…” © and bring a smile to someone as well as yourself today. Treat all life as you would like to be treated as yourself or if you were them. One brick at a time towards peace, kindness and respect for each other and ourself! Haste makes waste, take time to enjoy and see all the life, not the blur of these fast paced days. Fat pockets will never buy the true treasures in life.
