Oct. 28, 2005 After reading Steve Dayton's article on Cut and Run Golf, I can relate to it as the story of my golfing life. I travelled many years to many places as my bio will attest to. My wife and I have played the most famous of courses. After many many lessons and hundreds of rounds of golf, I never got any better. My best round ever was 82. My wife continually beat me. This 5 foot tall woman has never hit a drive longer than me, but thats where it ends. once the ball was in the fairway, it took me 2 shots to her 1 to catch up. I guess the old golf adage "drive for show, putt for dough" applied to me and the wife. Once at Pebble Beach, after she had a birdie on 18 and I was laying 6 out of the ocean again, I knew it must be time to quit my quest to equal Jack Nicklaus on 18. Still I plowed on and played the best I could. Eventually after back and neck surgery, I retired my original persimon woods (1 thru 9) and my name engraved irons. The woods are now 44 years old and in mint condition. I have been offered up to $4500.00 for them, but they are family heirlooms for my grandkids and great grandkids. So Steve, keep swinging, someday maybe you can be a pro or at least be a guest at the Masters. ------------ About the author: Carl is a 69 year old retired Electrical Project Engineer and has travelled extensively in all 50 states and many Countries in his working career.
