![]() By Argile Stox Oct. 26, 2005 The war in Iraq and two thousand brave warriors killed, bomb scares in New York and Boston, hurricanes and individuals still living in shelters, FEMA, political corruption, the president’s poll numbers are in the toilet, the outing of a CIA agent and the possibility that the vice president was involved, indictments, gas suppliers bloated profits, Wal-Mart’s memo regarding employing only ‘healthy individuals’, opening up "cold case files" in the 1960's Civil Rights Movement – I have heard of multi-tasking, however, this is getting ridiculous. What is next? The entire country is waiting with baited breath for the next shoe to drop. The citizens of the United States must take a deep breath and pause for a moment. Our government is in deep turmoil and the president is finding it difficult to preside over his elected duties. In addition, his administration is in disarray. The Republican Party is stuck in a quagmire of a conservative leadership that is half-heartily supporting a Supreme Court nominee, and they are distancing themselves from the president. Meanwhile, the Democrats are building political capital to regain both houses of Congress and the White House. Everyone on Capital Hill is running his or her mouths and not much is getting done. I am not in favor of the impeachment of George W. Bush. There is another option that has not been circulated in the media. Has anyone thought of a Presidential / Vice President and Congressional Recall Vote to sweep our government clean of incompetence? Ponder that proposed historic event for a moment. For the first time in American political history the President, members of the House and Senate could experience a vote of no confidence by the citizens, and be replaced immediately. This is not a new idea. Other countries periodically "clean house" when the citizens overwhelmingly agree that their leaders are burned-out. It is high time that We, The People of the United States remind our elected officials that they are accountable for their actions and blunders. The power of our great nation rests in our hands, and we can demand that our leaders be recalled by casting a vote. Citizens elected the current President / Vice President and members of both Houses of Congress, and we must have the expressed right to recall them when our government is floundering. The question I raise to each and every American is this: Are you mad as hell and not going to take it anymore? Are you willing to talk about and initiate a massive recall of our elected officials? Do you have the guts to stand up and make it happen in a civilized and democratic fashion? For all those who were born in the 1950’s and 1960’s – do you feel your blood boil, like it did in the 1970’s? Can you resurrect the mind-set that finally brought the warriors home from Viet Nam, embody the spirit and energy to get behind a total recall of our current President and both Houses of Congress? Have your children and grandchildren asked about your role in ending the Viet Nam War? Are they now asking what you are doing to get this country back on the right track? Remember, that our great nation was built on a foundation of discontent. Now is the time to look in the mirror and channel the spirit of our founding fathers. The lethargy of a wait and see attitude of the voting public has caused our elected officials to feel safe and secure until the next general election. It is time that we regain and restore our government with new elected officials that have the intelligence to end the status quo, and initiate positive constructive changes. "Ask not, what your Country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your Country." – John F. Kennedy. His words were a call to action in the 1960’s. His words are a call for action now, in 2005-2006.
