Bush Is Stuck Between A Rock And Some Hardheads

By Ron Lewis
Oct. 26, 2005

It has come time for the inevitable discussions to begin over how George Bush’s Presidency will by remembered by history. I’ve heard several pundits claim his will be ranked among the worst ever. That seems a stretch when the monumental tasks he faced are considered – we’ve not seen another terrorist attack on U.S. soil and the economy has steadily improved despite 9/11, huge war-related deficits, and the media’s hostility. Understandably, others think his Presidency will be praised, in time, for those and other reasons. My personal feeling is that his tenure will not be recalled at all. I expect the Chinese will erase most of our history prior to their hegemony.

The President has been in a no-win situation since 9/11. Forced to battle an unseen enemy in the form of Islamic terrorists bent on our destruction and proving themselves up to the task, while also battling our own liberal media intent on handing America over to our attackers, the Chinese come out victorious in every scenario. If the terrorists defeat us, China becomes the new world power. Without a decadent free press to question their military, and with our defeat very visible to their citizenry, they’ll have the support to win their battles with Islam.

Should we manage to defeat the Islamic extremists, it will have come at such a cost to our economy that we’ll be at the mercy of our creditors and China will assume world leadership.

Even the best case scenario, our defeat of radical Islam, is fraught with peril at every turn. When the liberal media cannot even get on board with ridding the world of the madman, Saddam Hussein, how can they ever be convinced of the looming threat of Islamic WMDs?

Pakistan has nuclear weapons, on missiles with a range of over 10,000 miles. They also have stealth submarines capable of launching those missiles at worldwide targets and a shipyard that can build more. Their pro-West government is losing support while fundamental Islamic parties intent on ridding the country of Western influence are gaining strength and already control two of their four provinces. When that transition of power is complete, and it seems very likely, what will prevent those nuclear weapons from falling into the hands of proxy terrorists groups?

Iran demands nuclear capability as well and will not be denied by diplomacy. Yes, they may say they’ve stopped production, and they may even sign pretty treaties to that effect – for which the Europeans are paying blackmail – but only a fool would think they will truly cease the nuclear ambitions. Their irrational lust for nuclear capability – ostensibly for peaceful energy production in a country awash in oil – is, in fact, very rational. They want nuclear weapons.

Our liberal media seems to shut its eyes and ears to the repeatedly stated intent of Islamic Jihadists – to kill or convert every living Christian. And in their perverted view of that beautiful religion, death as a martyr is desirable and the deaths of 50 million or 100 million of their comrades are 50 or 100 million times more desirable. With the reign of Islam spreading from Africa across Asia to the Philippines, they think nothing of losing a Saudi Arabia, or Iran, or Indonesia, etc., if the final result is the elimination of all non-believers from Earth.

Does anyone really believe that Islamic terrorists are not actively seeking WMDs? Does anyone really believe that if those weapons are secured, the Jihadists will not gleefully use them at the first opportunity against America? The answer is, "Yes"; American liberals and the liberal media seem content with their heads in the sand to ignore this obvious threat. Do they really ignore? Probably most of the do-gooders among the average citizenry don’t intend to, their rose-colored glasses merely obscure their vision. But can the leaders of the mainstream media be as foolish? Or, do that have an agenda that recklessly supports our enemies?

Unfortunately, it will only take one such Jihadist attack with a single WMD to devastate our economy and open the door to China. Our odds of preventing that attack, in the current situation, are not good. Americans should be taking Chinese as a Second Language classes as I write.

How can that attack be prevented? We have to take nuclear capability away from Islamic regimes – specifically those that are not democratic, or are theocracies. Only democracy will allow the conscience of the majority of Muslims to hold sway over the Jihadists. Islamic theocracies, on the other hand, are the breeding ground for those Jihadists.

Pakistan has been a democracy although they seem destined to become a theocracy. Iran is a theocracy. For either to have nuclear weapons and access to stealth submarines amounts to a death warrant for Western civilization.

Throughout history, ‘pre-emptive strikes’ against an obvious and threatening enemy have been allowed by global civilization. President Bush however, faces a different scenario – yes, a definite and lethal threat, but one that emanates from an unseen enemy. Where does one ‘strike’ Islamic Jihadists? We hear the snarling dog and can show the bite marks all over us, but the dog runs off into the night.

We can’t make a single "strike" against this enemy. That was Clinton’s strategy, just lob a few million-dollar missiles at various sand dunes. Instead, the President has to embark on a "pre-emptive WAR" to have any hope of securing our future. Yet, this concept is not recognized by the global community, and rightfully so in a historical context, so we’re seeing the global backlash.

I fear for my children. We’re far enough out in the country that it’s likely we’d survive the initial holocaust. I’ve had a wonderful life already and could survive a couple of decades in Chinese servitude. My children however, have a lifetime of slavery, either by Chinese or Islamic rulers, facing them. My brilliant daughter’s life would be wasted under the bonds of the burkha.

Yet, the liberal media continues to ignore and rallies its sheep-like subscribers against the President. They paint this battle as only greed for oil; how many times must that snarling dog bite before they accept that its bite is as bad as its bark? I believe we are doomed; another great society destroyed by the weakness of freedom’s individualism versus the unity of fanatical religion. I wonder how our secularists and humanists will feel about their children bowing to Mecca several times a day, or working in a sweatshop to produce sneakers for the Chinese children?
