I Will Regurgitate Today's News

By Stan Grimes
Oct. 26, 2005

Yes, I will regurgitate today’s news, 2000 American troops have now been killed in combat, over 15,000 wounded, and nearly half that number can never return to duty because of their injuries. Sounds like the war is going well. If our Commander-and-Chief can drag it out a few more years, perhaps one of his constituents will run for office with the promise of ending this debacle. That possibility will propagate the Republican party’s foothold on D.C.

Of course, there is always the possibility a Democrat will make the same promise and the Supreme Court with all of Bush’s cronies in it will decide the fate of our future again. Something to look forward to I’d say. At one time I looked upon the Supreme Court with pride. It held a hallowed place in my heart with its powerful “final say” in upholding the laws of the land. Now, it has become a launching pad for radical conservative agendas. Too bad, really.

I’m so darned surprised the Republicans are bucking slightly at the nomination of Harriet Mier to the Supreme Court, apparently they’re not all born-againers. Some of them may actually realize their god hasn’t been scoring well at guiding our great leaders. Get out of here will ya? They just want votes from the moderates. Come on, it’s politics. Geez, how many times to I have to tell ya?

Naivety is either growing in our country or we have become blind to the fact that everything occurring on the “Beltway” is politically motivated. I think Fredrick Smith is correct in surmising that nationalism is blindness. Nationalism is not related to patriotism. The Germans suffered the disease of nationalism and looked what happened to Alfonso Hitler and his gang. Nationalism be gone! America wake up and smell the coffee...no the coffee is not located on George Bush’s backside.

Instead of spending billions of dollars on a useless and tragic war, let’s put in the Social Security pot for retirees and the disabled. Speaking of billions of dollars, I’m reminded of a joke:

At the President's daily briefing, a White House staffer concludes by saying "And yesterday in Iraq, three Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"Oh no!" President Bush exclaims. "That's terrible news!" And, elbows on the table, he holds his head in his hands.

Surprised at this display of emotion, the room is silent, everyone nervously watching as Bush sits still.

Finally, Bush seems to recover a bit, looks up, takes a deep breath, and asks, "All right, just how many is a brazillion?"
