Oct. 25, 2005 The article by Marc Scolforo is entitled: “Mother fights county for custody of unborn child” and I expected it to be another story of some unwed girl who was hooked on drugs or booze that had been considered unfit to raise the child she was about to give birth to. I found out that the Pottsville, PA county child welfare agency is preparing to swoop in and claim custody of a child that is to be born of a perfectly healthy and married woman! What could this be? Melissa WolfHawk is married to a convicted sex offender; Daishin WolfHawk. She has been married to this fellow for three years. He served 10 years in New York’s penal system for the rape, attempted rape and sodomy of two teenage girls. The child welfare people do not believe that Daishin WolfHawk can be trusted in the vicinity of his naturally born daughter. This has got to be liberalism at its most contradictory! It was liberalism that allowed Daishin to serve only 10 years for crimes that should have cost him a life without parole sentence. Since he served liberalism’s 10 years, it is now liberalism that refuses to acknowledge Daishin served his time and is now properly and liberally rehabilitated. Liberalism is prepared to strip his wife of three years; who is not a former sex-offender of a child she is carrying to term. Again, liberalism is preparing to punish the innocent for crimes they haven’t committed. If Daishin WolfHawk is out of prison it is because he paid his debts; right? If he has paid his debt then why isn’t he being left alone to re-integrate with society? Why is a child welfare agency even concerned with someone society has declared can safely rejoin human society? We would not have situations like this if society truly punished its sexual predators as they should be. Allowing any rapist to leave prison in 10 years is a travesty. Yet, if this is to be society’s standard punishment for the heinous crime of rape, then, once released back to society isn’t it important to try to allow these sexual predators a chance to become useful citizens? We did it for Michael Jackson; twice and he served no prison time! Why must a woman be deprived of her child because of what MIGHT happen? These two people have been married for three years. Is it so hard to think that they might love each other and that perhaps Melissa and a child might keep Daishin out of further trouble with the law? Pottsville, Pa. child services should mind their own business on this one. Melissa WolfHawk is entitled to raise her child without their interference. Society says Daishin is rehabilitated.
