Oct. 24, 2005 I have heard from some of you that I no longer support Beth Twitty and her quest to find answers in the disappearance of her daughter. I am NOT against Beth, just her recent methods. As a result of appearing on various media outlets and repeating the same words over and over again she has lost some of the credibility that she started with. I don't doubt that Beth has knowledge of certain statements that were made and than covered up. I don't doubt that she wants answers and I have tremendous compassion for her. I DO wonder why the statements that she has alluded to have not been acted upon. Why aren't they in the hands of the Aruban police? Why haven't they received the tape of Deepak speaking? I feel that the Arubans are becoming very resentful of the media circus surrounding this case. The media can be of great help in solving cases or they can cause a lot of resentment and anger on those that they target. It isn't enough to talk to Greta or Dan...there has to be proof behind the comments and that proof has to be in the right hands. Dr, Phil is not investigating the case and has absolutely no clout on Aruba. He used Beth and now some people wonder if the whole tape situation was edited or taken out of context. Why go on an American talk show and play the tapes when they should have been presented as evidence to the police instead? I hope that Beth continues to keep the focus on Natalee because she should and I admire her strength for doing so. I don't think that running from channel to channel and repeating the same things are helping to solve the case and if anything, have slowed down the investigation, They can't investigate hearsay or sound bites made on the American media outlets. I think that Beth needs to go higher up than she has gone thus far. Maybe to the American Ambassador in Holland? Maybe to the Dutch Ambassador in Washington, DC? Someone who can pull some strings and look into the allegations of cover-up and set the record straight. I am not condemning Beth for continuing to fight for her daughter or to speak for Natalee. I am only suggesting that she change her tactics and get people involved who have some clout. If that is what some call "being disloyal to Beth" than I am guilty as charged. I have to separate emotion from reality and law and although the emotional factor got the ball rolling it is now time to move in a legal and positive direction so that answers can be found. Greta can only question Beth and her answers are left wanting. The constant replies of "This is HUGE" or "Absolutely Greta" are not going to cut it. The facts must speak for themselves and the evidence must exist for anything to move forward. They can't simply re-arrest the suspects on Beth's word or the words of Dr. Phil. EVERYTHING has to be verified and proven. Nothing can be based on speculation. My wish is for Natalee to be found and for those who harmed her to be brought to justice. I know how that works in most cases and trying people in the court of public opinion just doesn't work in any legal system. I am NOT against Beth Twitty...I am for her, and want only for her to find peace and solutions. I also don't want to see her become a caricature of a grieving mother or a "No not her again" laughable figure. There are many web sites devoted to this case and on many of them Beth is being scorned because of her recent tactics. I want to see that stopped and I want to see the wild rumors stopped as well. I have nothing but compassion for Beth and Dave and their families...but, using the media to attempt to force the Aruban police to arrest and charge the suspects with nothing to back it up just won't happen and hasn't happened thus far. Let's hope that something breaks in this case..something that is supported by evidence. Than and ONLY than can it be solved. The media has left Aruba because they had nothing more to gain from being there...the searches are sporadic and the information scarce. This is in compliance with the Aruban legal system and their law. They are NOT going to talk to the media about what they have and don't have. As it is, Deputy Police Chief Dombpig did something extraordinary in that he actually gave out interviews. I feel that the Aruban system should keep the family in the loop out of compassion but they aren't going to circumvent their own legal system no matter how cruel it may appear to the outside world. I believe that the cover-up is now over and if they find real evidence than they will act on it. Unfortunately, a lot of that evidence was ruined so they can only do the best that they can with what they have. You can't convict people due to the fact that they lied or changed their stories. It seems that all they have are a bunch of conflicting statements from the three suspects (that includes Deepak's tape), and not much more. Statements without proof of their validity is not evidence. There aren't any credible witnesses to a crime and other than the fact that Natalee was seen leaving Carlos & Charlie's with Joran and the Kalpoe brothers is just not enough. The fact that they have denied having sex with Natalee and than refuted themselves via taped interviews or spoken statements also does not prove that they killed her. They have had witnesses but nothing has come of what they had to say thus far...they have NOTHING. They did have a cover-up and I believe that Beth can have that exposed and to do that she needs people in powerful positions to take up her cause and expose it. At least than the world would know who did what in covering up the case and those people would be held responsible. That at least, would be something. To write to me to tell me that I am for Beth or against her isn't going to accomplish anything. My beliefs are far more complex than a for or against position. It isn't that simple and as a fair person I take no sides...I simply look at what there is and decide whether I think it's credible or not. To blindly follow one path puts a person in a position of vulnerability. I can't dismiss everything that is negative about Beth's methods or the Aruban investigation's methods and not look at the whole picture. That isn't the way that I operate nor is it what I have been taught to do. If people did that than justice would never be served.
