Oct. 15, 2005 Before we get into why I am interested in the filibuster let's take a look at what it is. According to www.m-w.com the filibuster (noun) definition 2a is “the use of extreme dilatory tactics in an attempt to delay or prevent action, especially in a legislative assembly“. That said this past week marks a new low in how low the Republican Party will go to seed their conservative judges on our Supreme Court. On the web site www.cbsnews.com under the section politics there is an article dated October 15, 2005 that states that the Republican's want to bar the Democrat's from using the filibuster I block President Bush's nominees. When asked about this new twist, Harry Reid said that this move is being used by the Republican Party to curtail the Senate's right. It would leave the leaders of this country with no check on their power, which is not a good thing. Currently it takes 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. Republican's want to use the majority rule instead. They (Republican's) have 55 seats and could afford to lose 5 to the Democrat's and still have their way. If allowed to push this agenda they would use Cheney to break any possible ties. (www.cbsnews.com) Fair or not? You be the judge. I say absolutely not! Move On Pac says that this move will change our current democratic republic into an empire with George as the King. It would allow the Republican party to replace the fair judges with those that are far-right clones of the Bush Administration. I agree. Bush continues to nominate people that have no real experience nor record as judges and wants the Democratic party to just roll over and accept his every whim. He is nearing the end of his second term and setting the slate for all future Republican's to further their own divisive agenda. He's made no secret that he wants Roe vs. Wade overturned. I say, George get a real thought! The decisions created in our Supreme Court effect ALL American's and we should have the most fair and impartial people sitting there possible, not people with self-serving agenda's bought by you! Please contact your local Representatives and members of the Senate to tell them not to capitulate to this ridiculous and manipulative tactic from the Republican's. Don't let them change our democracy into a theocracy or monarchy with George at the helm!
