My First Ghost Hunt

By Artie Kutsumitis

As Halloween aproaches, it's a good time to relay the results of our "Ghost Hunt" which I took part in, a few weeks ago. I have always believed in the afterlife, and spirits walk the Earth, but I needed proof. In the past I've seen things I can't explain, but again I wanted physical evidence. With the popularity of such shows as Ghost Hunters on SciFi Channel and Most Haunted on the Travel Channel, I wanted in on the action.

We entered the old New England Inn built in 1830. The owner, who I spoke to a few months ago about the strange sightings in one of his guest rooms, met us at the door. He had told us that we were only allowed in the room that we talked about. The Inn was booked, and the room would only be available to us for one night.

At around 8pm we set up our three cameras. One was focused on the mirror, that his guest last year, claimed to see the image of a man. The other was set up in the furthest part of the room, so we could capture the majority of the room. The other was handheld by one of the investigators. The investigators then took baseline EMF and temperature readings. A tape recorder was also set up to record any noises that were not ours, or of this World.

As 9pm approached, we shut off the lights. Why? The many people I have interviewed about supernatural experiences, ninety percent of them have had these experiences during the day or with the lights on. But, I'm just along for the ride, so who am I to say anything. As we sat in this dark room, with only the light of the nightvision cameras and the street lights outside, I began to feel a little uneasy. I scare easily, so maybe that is what I was feelng. With nothing out of the ordinary going on, at around 2am, we decided to pack up, and head home. We thanked the owner, and departed, so to speak.

With some objection, I asked the lead investigator, if I could hold onto the cameras, just so there isn't any tampering with the equipment. Not that they would do that, but you never know. The next evening, we started to review the tapes. As we watched five hours of footage from three seperate cameras, and twenty pictures from a digital camera, and five hours of audio, nothing out of the ordinary appeared or was heard. Yes, I was disappointed.

I now have a small glimpse of what Ghost Hunting is all about. I wish we had found something, anything, but, you can't have everything. Since we have been on this ghost hunt, several people have told me they have still photos of unexplained images, but now, a month later, they have not shown me the pictures. Why not? Where are the pictures? I want to see them, so I can experience this instead of just writing about others. I still believe, but I want proof. I hope I'm invited to another investigation in the future. All in all, it was a great night, with great people. Happy Halloween
