Oct. 10, 2005 The people of the United States offer our deepest sympathies for the loss of life and destruction caused by the earthquake that struck outside of Islamabad. The earthquake devastated Pakistan and India leaving at least thirty thousand dead or missing. This earthquake was a whopping 7.6. It also was felt all the way into Afghanistan. There were no Americans killed in the quake including those boys and girls fighting in Afghanistan. America once again is about to extend its helping hand. This is the difference between us and the rest of the world. We are still suffering the effects of Katrina and Rita and we still find it in our hearts to send help where and when needed, oh god, what a country. What makes a country are its people. With the freedoms to speak, eat, think and play differently we are these people that make up the multiplicity we call America. We are strong and like the adage says “What fails to kill us only makes us stronger.” I feel for the people around the world, I really do but the time has come to close our door and clean up the messes we have here at home. Lets pretend that company is coming and fix what’s broken here. Uncle Sam is like that rich Uncle that comes for a visit throwing money around like it is water. When Sam gets home he has to eat cat food for dinner. There is a time to be proud and a time to show concerns for our own. Now is the time to do for us. I feel for Pakistan and all the other countries in between but folks, if we keep up this pace we will be reduced to there level of living. Natural disasters happen all over the world and to all of us.
