Oct. 6, 2005 There are some inventions like the wheel and the printing press that revolutionize the world, and then there are some that just make you shrug or wince. A coaster, fitted with sensors, that measures the weight of the beer and sends a signal to the bartender when it's time for a refill, is not an invention that is destined for greatness. It's no great surprise to find out that the coaster was invented by college kids in Germany. I don't think earth shattering discoveries or inventions are in the future for those students. A beer-guzzling bar fly no longer has to slur the words, "Gimme a refill", thanks to the contraption that can discern when a beer mug is empty. Why make things easier for a useless drunk? Why doesn't someone invent a device that will measure the weight of beer in a drunk's belly, and warn "Hey lardo, you've had enough to drink, why don't you call a cab, and get the hell home"? ------------ About the author: Robert Paul Reyes has written over 200 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
