Oct. 5, 2005 It wasn’t that long ago President Bush was declaring that we are going to rebuild New Orleans better than it was before. What happened? Now we find the president doing a side-step dance number. He’s really not that great of a dancer. Clinton? Now there was a real dancer and a pretty darn good saxophonist. Now that the dirt is starting to show in New Orleans and the FEMA motor homes are lined up in military columns, we are beginning to hear a different melody being hummed by the boys’ choir in D.C. Today alone, I’ve heard such songs as, “Maybe Louisiana Ought To Saddle More Of The bill.” Great melody, but the words don’t rhyme. Also, another song is becoming popular, “We’ve (Feds) Have Already Shoveled Out Over Sixty Billion Dollars In the Gulf States.” I like the words, but I think it was plagiarized from George Senior’s administration. One of the best songs I’ve heard all week is, “It’s All Right Momma, You’re Son Doesn’t Need His Job On The City Payroll (Written and Performed by the illustrious mayor of New Orleans).” It’s a catchy little tune that is gaining in popularity in the White House. Art is wonderful thing isn’t it? Now, back to the broken record that keeps playing on my old Victrola (you do remember what a Victrola is, don’t you?) “We Are Still Spending Billions Of Dollars In Iraq.” A song that parallels this is, “How Many American Troops Have Died Defending A Deceptive War?” Normally I don’t care for songs that end with a question mark, but this stole my heart (as you well know). I love art. Art, the word is magical profession and opens doors to a whole new world of under-handed political game-playing. Politics is the biggest art of all. Players and actors, who’s the best in D.C.? DeLay? Bush? Cheney? You can fill in your own blank. The biggest political actor in the country is ________________. (What? You didn’t think I would end my column with some cheek-in-tongue?)
