Greta's Show On Natalee Holloway, Taylor Behl, LaToya Figueroa, Etc.

By Meri Ulrich
Nov. 26, 2005

On Friday night Greta Van Susteren had a special program where she had Beth Twitty, Taylor Behl's mom, the father of LaToya Figueroa, Mark Fuhrman and others who have lost children this past year.

It was done before a live audience and was very touching and very sad.

Beth was more real to me and I could really sense her pain. I hope that the Dr. Phil fiasco hasn't hurt her determination to continue speaking for Natalee and that the "real" person that I saw last night is the same person who continues on with her quest. This was the Beth Twitty that I saw in the early days of Natalee's disappearance before the manipulators got hold of her.

I had always wanted to see Mark Fuhrman in the same place as Beth so that he could advise her and maybe help her in some way.

The show was NOT exploitive in my opinion and Greta was sensitive and asked all of the right questions.

One thing made me wonder about the toll that this case has had on Beth and Jug's marriage. When asked what she was going to do for Thanksgiving (the first without Natalee), she answered that she, her son and her mother would be together. She didn't mention Jug, She also said that she had only been home for about ten days since the end of May and that signals to me that her marriage may have suffered greatly as a result of what she is going through. I hope that this situation doesn't pull her and her husband apart but unfortunately the statistics say otherwise. Many families break up over a loss like the one they've suffered and it tests the strongest of marriages. I hope that she doesn't suffer yet another loss as a result of Natalee's disappearance.

It would be wonderful if the parents of the missing and the murdered brought some kind of comfort to one another because only THEY can understand what the pain is like of losing a child.

I applaud Greta for doing a show like this and it showed that she was more interested in helping people than exploiting their misery. It really put people like Dr. Phil and Rita Cosby in perspective and the obvious differences in motivation and reportage was apparent.

What stood out the most was the difference between how the police cooperated fully with the parents of the other murdered girls versus the complete lack of cooperation between the families of Natalee and the Aruban authorities. It was really shameful and sad. I could feel the loneliness and desperation that Beth must feel when I listened to the others talking about how the various investigative agencies had been of so much help and comfort to them. I began to fully understand what had motivated Beth to speak to the media and call for a boycott. The utter desperation was obvious to see and it only made me angrier with the Dutch and Arubans for being so cold and unfeeling. Law or no law, victims deserve some kind of respect and comfort from those in charge and Beth and her family have received none. What they have received are lies and out and out scorn and I can't even imagine how horrible that must be for them. They've been blamed and questioned about their own motivations.

The Arubans and the Dutch should be ashamed of themselves. They claim to be proponents of human rights yet in this particular case they have shown no compassion for the victims.

If anything came out of this important show it was how Beth stood alone among the other victims and how she has had to fight, claw and jeopardize her family life to find out anything about her missing daughter.

It shouldn't require a boycott or a media blitz to force people to treat the family of a missing victim with decency and respect.

I'm afraid that the people involved in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway have no idea what human rights are nor do they practice them.
