A Poem About Useless Knowledge Magazine

By Meri Ulrich
Nov. 23, 2005

There once was a writer from UK
who submitted several articles each day
Some made it online, but some were unkind
so the Editor threw them away.
Some spoke about awards and IQ's
Some spoke about political views
There were quotes from the good book
and some with a hook that captured your attention right away
and more than just a few that managed to go astray
Is there a God? Is Bush a liar
Is the sky falling? How many birds on a wire
Is Natalee dead or alive?
Is the world really going to survive?
I've seen them all yet I cannot recall
who wrote them except for my own.
and of course, which of you will cast the first stone.
Will my inbox fill with approval or scorn
will I get bunches of roses or stems full of thorns?
It's a chance that one takes when one attempts to make
a statement that they appear to believe
A risk and a notion that your work will be a promotion
from the mundane, boring life you may lead.
So write my friends, keep those ideas flowing until the bitter end
You should never be silenced not one single word
no matter how meaningless or patently absurd
Let freedom ring throughout the UK site
let it echo through the hills and valleys with delight
Some will send salutations and some will send bile
but you keep on writing, be true to your style.
Fear not the naysayer's, the critics and the loons
who I suspect spend a lot of their free time
on all fours hollowing at the moon!!
