Michael John McCrae The Offender [Or Not]

By Ken Hughes
Nov. 21, 2005

I find it hard to believe Michael John McCray would deliberately offend anyone. I find it even harder to believe Dr. Brooks Mick would be offended by anything Mac said. I know and respect both men. I can’t see either getting their noses out of joint over anything said. It isn’t always possible to express an opinion that satisfies everyone all the time. I know I’ve raised the hair on the backs of both men necks from time to time. They didn’t call me a moron, it was there between the lines. Like it or not most of the time they were right.

Internet Columnists have their critics, at times the threats can be freighting. More than one contributor’s received serious threats. I’ve never been threaten with physical harm. It makes me wonder perhaps I’m not very good at this writing thing if I can’t muster at least one death threat a year.

We’ve become a society of malcontents where nothing anyone say or does is without scorn. Missing or adding a letter in someone’s name isn’t the crime of the century. Confusing Nazareth with Bethlehem won’t change history. What will change history as it’ll be written about these times we live in is this constant effort a few specific groups endeavor to make us perfect according to their views. I beg your forgiveness Mac but even God didn’t make this world perfect. There’re many bumps in the road from birth to death. I know I’ve hit most of them, with God help I survived

There’s a growing hostility and discontent not only in America but all over the world. This is one of the failings of society. The world goes through these bouts of self-loathing. Then something or someone comes along and makes us proud to be Americans again. Unfortunately, our rise back to civility and self-worth is never a quick process. By the time, we realize we’re on the road to recovery the thing or person who made it possible has left us.

I can name a few president who made a difference, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, and God forgive me, even William Clinton made us feel good, His antics as the class clown gave us a cretin amount of joy. These men have made Americans proud.

Other men closer to home have made us proud as well. Coronal Brooks Mick, [Retired] and Sergeant Michael John McCrae, [Retired]. These men were soldiers first and technicians second. They went where they were sent and did what they were instructed to do, to protect their country and its people even those who showed little respect for their service were protected.

There’s a debate in congress regarding the war in Iraq. Some say America should pull out now. They offer no solution for the Iraqi people except to return to touchier, rape, and murder of another dictator like or worse than Saddam Hussein. These congressional cowards have no regard for America giving it’s word to the Iraqis to stay the course until the Iraqis ready to do the job of securing a fledging democracy themselves. Every war has had its dissenters, in the past few Congressmen voted us into war then cowardly backed out for political gain.

How do such men dare to bring America down to the depths of depravity to allow oppressed and impoverished people in the world not expect America the light of the world not to come to their aid. God created America and stocked it with the best people from all the tribes of the world had to offer for just this purpose. God made us the saviors of the world. America was chosen for the job, who else?
