Nov. 20, 2005 Usually when I go to the nearest video game store to purchase something in the way of that type of entertainment, I already know what I am looking for as what type of game, even the game’s title and so on. But on a recent trip to such a store and dissatisfied with some of the present games for the various video game systems, I asked the store clerk to recommend something in the style of an RPG. I have always preferred this genre of video game because of their high challenging factor and the ones I have played so far have been just that. Games ranging from the legend of Zelda series to the Final Fantasy ones. Anyway, after carefully examining what types of games, used or new the store had, the clerk recommended one titled Yu Yu Hakusho The Spirit Detective for the portable gameboy advance video game system. Of course after playing such epics as games from the Final Fantasy or Zelda series, one might expect something of that nature. But instead, Yu Yu Hakusho, reminded me much of the SNES Shadowrun game from the nineties, minus all the armour and bullet driven weapons the character in Shadowrun used, but the hero of Yu Yu Hakusho eventually acquires something known as a Spirit Gun. The game also employs a save feature that requires the player’s completion of whatever level he or she is on It is an interesting game in which much of the hero’s tasks involve the finding of certain artifacts and even a body he can inhabit. The only frustrating aspect for me was running around town (in the game) looking for such artifacts, especially if you did not know where to find such artifacts. Of course while you the player are trying to achieve your objective, there are enemies you have to battle along the way as well, most of whom accost your hero in the streets. There are boss battles as well. And while the game comes with a rated T for Teen warning, for some violent scenes, I found it to be quite different and interesting for a change, especially if you have grown accustomed to playing the Final Fantasy/Zelda type of game. ------------ About the author Judy Ramsook: My first book titled: "Karen's Adventure" which is about two young girls who go in search of their missing parents, is now available.
