Nov. 18, 2005 I read in my Dutch newspaper Dick Cheney is angry at the Democrats, because of ´withdrawing their support for the Iraq war´. According to the vice-president, the Democrats were pro at the beginning of the war. And now, they´re contra! I´ll be honest: I´ve no idea whether, and if so with how many, Democrats were pro going to fight Iraq. I´m not following American politics that well I know all ins and outs. It´s true that already under the presidency of Bill Clinton there were voices to learn Saddam a lesson. Clinton confined himself to some precise attacks in the South of Iraq. But even when the Democrats should all have been in favour of going to war against Iraq, which I doubt very much, who dares to deny them the right to change their meaning? Once again, Mr. Cheney (and President Bush): the war against Iraq was a war based on false pretexts. Saddam Hussein didn´t dispose of nuclear or chemical weapons at that time, he wasn´t even able to produce them. Saddam Hussein was not a supporter of Osama Bin Laden (the two must have hated each other) and Saddam Hussein had no intentions to attack the USA. He was crazy, but not as crazy like that. New that very few Americans doubt the truth about what their government told them in 2003, the Bush administration should have to admit ´Okay, we went to war on unjust information. That was a mistake. Let´s make the best of it and end our job well now.´ Only this way the President could become reliable again. I don´t think he or Mr. Cheney will ever have the courage. In the meantime, they are getting entangled in their own lies (Plame- gate) more and more. That´s what happens when you´re not acting like one should according to the political rules. Politics smells, but the ones who´re responsible for that always come to grief in the end.
