Nov. 15, 2005 There are a great many words of power. To more than fill your cup with such words, go to Powerful Words for Peace. Here are some sample offerings: Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned. Buddha Those who are free of resentful thoughts surely find peace. Buddha Love the moment and the energy of the moment will spread beyond all boundaries. Sister Corita Kent It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. Saint Francis of Assisi Forgiveness is the remission of sins. For it is by this that what has been lost, and was found, is saved from being lost again. Saint Augustine When you pray for anyone you tend to modify your personal attitude toward him. Rev. Norman Vincent Peale One filled with joy preaches without preaching. Mother Teresa Calculation never made a hero. John Henry Cardinal Newman Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me. Amen. Martin Luther Many a man curses the rain that falls upon his head, and knows that it brings abundance to drive away hunger. Saint Basil These are peaks of speech uttered during a happy moment either in a private space or during a conversation with people who retain what the speaker uttered. The inspired words have been preserved for folks to consider. Caught up in poetic rapture and under the influence of heaven's alcohol, I too am moved to vocalize. Each spring the beech tree sprouts both new leaves and grows new twigs. Come fall the leaves turn golden and fall to the ground. The leaves' splendor is short-lived. But the twigs remain and sticks become the tree. So whatever you do in good faith, stick with it. Raptures grow like leaves on the tree of humanity. Soon my lines may fall from memory and be gone like leaves blown off of a tree. Without it's leaves, though, the tree wouldn't grow. Nor would a seed sprout and grow into a sapling. So to banish the leaves of rapture would be to end the growth of humanity. Trees grow and bless us with oxygen so that we may breathe and live. To benefit from this aspect of trees, we use our noses and our lungs. Trees bless us with wisdom as well. To benefit from this aspect of trees, we use our brains. Powerful words flow from speakers or writers who feel blessed, and if material wealth bought blessedness, then Bill Gates and other sublimely rich people plus national governments would bring happiness to everyone! Money, however, can't buy either powerful persons or powerful words. So think, and grow rich in power. Wise sayings shine in the summer sun like leaves on well-watered trees and tired people rest beneath the cooling shades. When shorter days and blasts of cold air remove all such greenery, then hard reality becomes clear as the ice through which the Winter sun shines. Only a few sayings remain evergreen and sustain us through the hardest times. At the coldest and darkest season of the year people look to an evergreen tree and decorate it with bright ornaments. People sense the Yule symbolism only dimly, but some light is better than no light at all, and even a small candle ends total darkness. Keep the candle burning. Poems are made by fools like me but only a seed can make a tree. Court Jester ------------ About the author: John L.
