Breakfast With Keith Butler

By Ken Hughes
Nov. 15, 2005

Who is Keith Butler? He’s the Republican Candidate who’s trying to knock Debby Stabenow the Democratic Senator from Michigan off her perch. What is Keith Butler? Not what I expected when I arrived for our breakfast this morning. I was looking for a Jesse Jackson / Al Sharpten style preacher. Keith Butler is Black and a Reverend. What I found was an articulate, self-confident serious candidate for the Senate with an agenda I can support, He’swilling to stand on his record of 23 years working his way up through all the messy jobs to get to where he is today, a serious candidate for the Senate. Keith Butler is not a token black candidate, he’s the real thing.

Nearly a hundred Republican Party stalwarts who will be working to make his candidacy payoff attended the breakfast. These are the men and women who’ll be the ones who get out the vote for Mr. Butler. These people sat memorized by this gentleman, listening to him set out his agenda if elected.

Black Republicans are a rare breed, not easily found in Blue States. It was refreshing to find one who transcended the typical “Poor me Black rhetoric” Keith Butler gave a short speech spelling out the Republican Party line we all know by heart. He went into a Q & A session where he shined. He didn’t promise a chicken in every pot, he promised to see the government didn’t steal half your chicken on the way to the pot. Keith Butler has a vision of politics others would do well to emulate, < www.keithbutlerforussenate.com > for anyone interested in reading more about this candidate.

Senators Carl Levin, Debby Stabenow, and Governor Jennifer Grandholm are bringing Michigan business to its knees with their excessive taxation and regulation. The Detroit Metropolitan area is home to the worlds automobile industry, an industry in trouble. The afore mentioned would look to the federal government for a bailout of the Auto industry. The federal government doesn’t have the means to bail out the Auto Industry. It’ll take concessions by labor, state and federal regulations and tax relief. Keith Butler addressed these issues in his Q & A session today.

We’re so use to the Jackson / Sharpten style rhetoric coming from black politicians, it was truly refreshing to listen to one who could make his color and religion literally disappear as he began to speak.

Keith Butler is aware if the Republican Party is to attract black voters they must have someone who speaks to and for blacks. Who better to spread the message “We Want You” than the man who ministers to 2,000 mostly black parishioners every Sunday? More and more black voters are becoming dissatisfied with the Democratic Party. They aren’t necessarily ready to join the Republicans but their vote goes up for grabs, This is where a man like Keith Butlers is needed to make sure Republicans have the greater grab.

Keith Butler is one of three men vying for the nomination to become Michigan’s Republican Candidate for the Senate. He’s certainly a man I can support should he be successful.
